The Spotlight on The Mitre Hotel

Historic Charm Meets Concert Convenience

A true Manchester classic, The Mitre Hotel blends period character with modern touches right in the heart of the city. Built in 1815 at the foot of Manchester Cathedral, its grand exterior and central location make it a standout stay. Just a short walk from top concert venues and nightlife hotspots, it offers a cozy, budget-friendly base for music fans wanting to stay close to the action.

Why Concert-goers love it

Location, location, location — it doesn’t get much better. The Mitre is just a 5-minute walk from the AO Arena and steps away from the Printworks entertainment complex. Late show? No problem — you're right by Victoria Station and the Shudehill tram stop, making late-night travel a breeze. The 24/7 front desk means flexible arrivals, and while the vibe is lively, many rooms offer quiet views over the Cathedral for a peaceful post-gig wind-down.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends looking to gig and go out
- Solo travelers catching a must-see artist
- Couples combining concerts with a weekend in the city
- Fans wanting a quieter space to recharge after the encore
- Budget-conscious music lovers who want location without the luxury price tag

Food and Drink Options

The hotel’s on-site restaurant and bar serve up hearty meals and drinks in a stylish, updated setting — ideal for a pre-show bite or nightcap. Breakfast is available for purchase, including Full English options perfect after a late night. While there's no 24-hour room service, you're surrounded by walkable late-night eateries in the Printworks and Arndale areas.

Nightlife Options

With the Printworks complex just across the square, you're steps from Manchester’s best bars, clubs, and live music venues. The hotel itself doesn’t host live music, but its in-house bar is a cozy place to start the night or wind down with a drink and views of the Cathedral.

What People Say

Guests consistently praise the unbeatable location, historic charm, and friendly staff. It’s a favorite for those attending gigs at the AO Arena thanks to its proximity. Many love the characterful atmosphere and views of Manchester landmarks. While rooms vary in size and amenities, most find it great value for money.

Areas for Improvement

There’s no elevator, so be ready for stairs. Some rooms have shared bathrooms, so double-check when booking. Also, there’s no on-site parking, though discounted public parking is available nearby with pre-booking.

The Bottom Line

If you want to stay steps from the music, nightlife, and transit — all while soaking up some Manchester history — The Mitre Hotel hits the right note for concert-goers.

Steve N, Manchester, visiting Band on the Wall Manchester

There's no point, really. If the hotel management cannot see that offering a room so bad in 2016 is utterly unacceptable then they truly are in the wrong business. Where are the Council's Trading Standards Department when you need them? Damp stains on the ceiling; a mattress from the 1970s; half a smoke alarm; mould in the bathroom; cigarettes extinguished on the side of the bath; worn out MFI furniture. Er, that's enough now...

Liked: It's in a great location... but that really is it.
Disliked: Too much to bother typing it all out...

Samantha, Leeds, visiting AO Arena

I would definitely stay again and so would my friend; the staff in the hotel part were very friendly and helpful, but in the bar area where we ordered a Valentine's meal it took over an hour to get the meal and then they got the order wrong - but in the end we got what we asked for, although late. I kept having to go to the bar to see where our food was and we were going to an event at the arena. The hotel is in the centre and only 15 minute walk to the arena and bars - it has a good atmosphere and everyone is friendly.

Liked: Overall the staff on reception were very helpful and friendly.
Disliked: Service for a meal in the restaurant.

Great location, rooms basic but...

Liked: The hotel is in a good position in terms of being close to trains and pubs and very close to Arndale/John Lewis and Cathedral. The receptionists are lovely and custimer service is brilliant!
Disliked: The hotel is very old there's no doubting that, the rooms are basic and awkward to get to (lots of stairs) our bed was on a tilt, so my husband felt he might fall out all night ( old building, can't be helped). Rooms and walls very thin, we heard next doors conversations and was very obvious there was drug use on our floor which was unfortunate for us. We got what we paid for qas how we felt.

Disliked: Breakfast, not much choice. No healthy options and coffee was sachets of nescafe in the dirty cups.
