Great restaurant in charming location

Liked: We always love visiting this restaurant and staying in the charming rooms above with lovely views over the river Stour. Excellent seafood served.

Liked: It was clean and tidy. Staff was really nice and warm.
Disliked: It was quite noisy — the floors creaked constantly, and I struggled to get any sleep. Conversations from nearby rooms were clearly audible. The shower had a leak, causing a dripping sound throughout the night. While the service was good, the price felt steep for the location.

Liked: We very much enjoyed our short break in north Essex staying at the Mistley Thorn. The room was separate from the main hotel; it was a large suite - more than enough room for us. Nicely decorated and in good order. The breakfasts were great and the one lunch and two dinners we had were very good indeed. A full restaurant - everyone and everything worked seamlessly. Popular with the locals - always a good sign! Delicious seafood. Burger was one of the best we've had in a long time. The train station is a short walk away and the local bus stops outside the hotel. A welcoming place to stay.
Disliked: Challenging stairs in the approach and within the suite we were staying in.
