Areas for Improvement

While the hotel’s spa is a fantastic amenity, access comes with an extra charge, which some guests find a little surprising. Also, parking is not included and can be pricey nearby, so plan ahead if you’re driving.

Hotel stay not impressed for...

Liked: The main bar, The French Restaurant and all staff were excellent. The hotel was in a perfect location. The breakfast was excellent with a very good selection.
Disliked: When we tried to book in there was a mix up with our room reservation putting us down for 2 rooms instead of 1 until I showed the bookings.com reservation.For a 5 star hotel, it was disappointing that the air-conditioning in our room did not work properly. This was supported by the fact that a pedestal fan was placed in the room.I think given the reservation mix up at the start we ended up with a substandard room.

Not worth it!

Disliked: It felt like a waste of money as the spa was fully booked and the hotel view from the window was terrible!

let down by 3 and...

Liked: one of my favourite hotels in manchester so I booked it for me and three friends for the weekend to celebrate my 50th birthday.
Disliked: One thing ruined the whole stay - a three and half hour delay to check in. No explanation as why and we just kept getting passed free drinks vouchers, it ruined the whole evening as we had planned it all as a big celebration weekend. So missed meeting other friends on time and running late for our meal we had booked. We had paid over £450 for one night, room only and three and a half hrs spent waiting for the room to be ready - not acceptable really. After complaining all I got was another free voucher for breakfast. No apology or explanation. Definitely stopped me wanting to book again which is a shame as I love the hotel.

Liked: Arrived last Thursday, on the 7th August. Don't go to Manchester like I used to and the last time I stayed at the Midland, was probably 20+ years ago. I told my wife how good the hotel was, so she was looking forward to the stay. the room was superb, so was the breakfast. We upgraded to a suite and it was very impressive. Breakfast delivered on time, lady was very pleasant, just a total contrast to the day before
Disliked: Check in was at 3pm. Went to room with luggage. Came back down stairs and went for afternoon tea at 3.30. Wouldn't let us in, said we were too late, despite it being advertised to 4.30. Do the maths how can we check in at 3pm and then be too late for afternoon tea? Went for a meal in Manchester, came back to the hotel at 11. Told Bar was closed and could only have a beer. Asked why my wife couldn't have a pink gin and lemonade. told no ice. Next thing a customer came to the bar and asked for a cup of ice and was given it. Complained to the manager, who went and got a drink for my wife. If you are advertising services and customers are paying to stay, then you should provide the service. Felt that the service was more about saving money rather than providing what was advertised. Cant run a first class hotel with second rate service. Michael Cotter

Very pleasant stay and good...

Liked: The hotel lobby smells divine! I believe they used to sell this scent as a candle but no longer do which is a shame. The hotel was in a really good location. Our room was a good size, very comfortable and clean. We were able to upgrade our room on arrival for a really fair price. The Elemis toiletries were a welcome addition.
Disliked: The family swim times were quite restrictive, my daughter is 16 and not a young child but as she is under 18 met the criteria for family swim times, which were full and we were unable to book! We also didn’t have a good outlook from our window it was of the inner court yard and we had numerous pigeons outside our window.
