Disappointed.
Liked: Friendly staff who tried their best in circumstances that were made difficult by management policy. The breakfast was good, and staff very accommodating, although the hours a little tight on weekdays for holidaymakers: probably OK for business people.Location and parking are fantastic. The hotel is full of character and history and staying there is a reminder of bygone times. The side entrance is like a restored railway station and a wonderful way to enter the hotel. We went back to this hotel because we had stayed there in July 2022 and really enjoyed it.
Disliked: The room service was not done on one of the days and not thoroughly on another.A discussion with the reception brought the answer "we don't clean rooms properly anymore" (sic). The manager overhearing this said "actually we have a reduced cleaning policy; bins changed, towels changed, bed tidied"I replied, "I can understand that, but no-one actually went into the room".And moreover, I added "I don't recall signing up for reduced service, when I paid the full price on-line with booking.com"The manager of the cleaning team then approached us later as we were having coffee and said, "you had DnD on the door!""Err, no we didn't", we replied."It was taken off after we left the hotel after breakfast"."Oh, the staff leave early, as soon as they have finished, so maybe they had already left", was the reply. The friends who were with us were as shocked as we were...You risk losing good customers. Also:Ventilation was poor.... It was boiling in the room, and much chillier outside (16-20th July). Couldn't open the windows wide. An old building, so I get that. The room was dusty. I wanted to put my case of the top of the wardrobe and changed my mind when I saw the huge puff of smoke (dust actually), that blew up.

We loved it and are...
Liked: Location was excellent as we were attending a concern. The age and beauty of the hotel are delightful. All staff were very friendly and helpful...notably Bev who opened up the ballroom for us to view. We are on a dance break at the hotel in a few weeks
Disliked: Breakfast was disappointing. The eggs had been left out too long and were hard. The cold buffet was a huge disappointment with a very limited range of fruit and cereal, no pastries etc. It would be so easy to improve your breakfast.

Rubbish.
Liked: Good location and free car park (although spaces limited).
Disliked: Place smelt dirty and musty, rooms very run down, toilet seat that didn’t fit, bits missing around the sink in the bathroom, dirty bathroom floor. Staff not very nice, lady on reception Cheryl or Shirley was rude and acted like you were an annoyance when even asking her the smallest question. So unprofessional. Don’t waste your money staying here, wish I had paid extra for the travelodge.
