The Spotlight on The Michelangelo Hotel

Classic Elegance in the Heart of Midtown Manhattan

Modern luxury meets old-world charm at The Michelangelo Hotel, a refined retreat just 1056 feet from the electric energy of Times Square. With its marble bathrooms, plush soaking tubs, and timeless design, this Midtown gem offers a tranquil escape amid New York City’s most iconic music and entertainment venues. Whether you're heading to a show at Radio City, exploring the Museum of Modern Art, or catching a concert at a nearby arena, you're right in the center of it all.

Why Concert-goers love it

Location is everything—and The Michelangelo delivers with a prime Midtown address just steps from major music venues like Radio City Music Hall and within walking distance to subway lines for easy late-night returns. The 24/7 front desk makes late check-ins a breeze, while the slow-close marble bathrooms and deep soaking tubs offer the perfect post-concert wind-down. Despite being near the buzz of Times Square, rooms are surprisingly peaceful—ideal for recharging after a high-energy night.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking to stay close to the action
  • Solo travelers attending a once-in-a-lifetime show
  • Couples turning a concert into a romantic weekend
  • Fans who want a serene space after a loud night
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who still want some luxury

Food and Drink Options

While The Michelangelo doesn’t offer full-scale dining, the on-site Lounge serves wine and spirits in a sleek, modern setting—perfect for a pre-show toast or nightcap. Plus, thanks to its Midtown location, there are dozens of 24/7 delis, diners, and restaurants just steps away. Grab breakfast after a late night or indulge in classic NYC eats at all hours.

Nightlife Options

You're just blocks away from some of the city’s most iconic nightlife spots—from trendy rooftop bars to cozy jazz lounges and buzzing late-night eateries. While the hotel itself leans more refined than rowdy, the nearby scene more than makes up for it, offering everything from live music venues to stylish cocktail bars.

What People Say

Guests rave about the spacious rooms (rare for NYC!), the elegant bathrooms with luxurious soaking tubs, and the location that puts you within walking distance of top attractions and venues. Many mention the helpful staff and the feeling of calm and quiet despite being so close to Times Square. It's often praised as a hidden gem for travelers who want comfort without sacrificing location.

Areas for Improvement

Some visitors note that the decor feels a bit traditional if you’re more into ultra-modern vibes. There’s no full-service restaurant on-site, and while the Lounge is lovely, late-night food options require a short walk. WiFi is complimentary, but a few guests found the signal spotty in certain rooms.

The Bottom Line

If you're catching a concert in Midtown Manhattan, The Michelangelo Hotel offers an elegant, quiet, and ultra-convenient home base just steps from the city's biggest stages.

Ideal for a New York...

Liked: As soon as we arrived, we were made very welcome by the staff, especially June at reception. We were upgraded to a very pleasant suite. The rooms are very spacious for New York and very well soundproofed. The hotel isn't modern, but it's conveniently located between Central Park and Times Square, with a bike station in front of the hotel. We'll be glad to come back.
Disliked: Nothing

Old Hotel, Outdated Management –...

Liked: excellent location – everything was within walking distance: shops, restaurants. It was very easy to explore the area and get around without needing a car.
Disliked: This is a very old hotel with outdated management. The internet almost never worked, and if you want stable Wi-Fi for work, you have to pay extra – which is a very strange decision in the 21st century, especially in New York. They even charge for TV channels – something I’ve never seen anywhere in Europe. The room keys kept deactivating. In just one day, we couldn’t get into our room three times.⚠️ Important: they do not provide a proper invoice. I requested it multiple times and still haven’t received one.

Need better check in staff...

Liked: Location, size of the room, and bellman.
Disliked: The smell of bacteria in the bathroom and being invited to secure an upgraded room then upon checking in being told it’s not available only to observe that the hotel was virtually empty.

The Michelangelo is a perfect...

Liked: The location was excellent. Close to so many iconic locations and easy to find. Also the food was wonderful! The staff was extremely helpful with a special shout out to the doorman and to the concierge Daniel.
Disliked: Not all front desk staff was knowledgeable of what the hotel offered.

Great location, Great hotel room,...

Liked: The room size was what was seen in the pictures, very spacious. There are minimal options at the restaurant but many local options. The smell of weed was strong in the corridors. A very tiny exercise room with minimal equipment.
Disliked: The smell of weed in the corridors. The breakfast package was not worth the additional price because the menu is limited. We stayed for 11-nights, would have been good for just 3-4 times.
