Exceeded expectations in every way!
Liked: This hotel exceeded my expectations! I felt as though I was in Europe at a 5 star hotel. The property oozes old world charm and service. The location is central to all the hustle and bustle of midtown and yet, when one walks through the hotel doors, one enters a peaceful oasis. The staff is solicitous without being overbearing, and Edwin at the front door greets as if everyone is family. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the bed was among the most comfortable of any hotel we’ve ever stayed in. Special mention to the mini bar and selection of treats in the room.
Disliked: Very picky comment but plusher / softer towels would have be nice.

Not impressed, never again
Liked: The bed was good, but not much else.. most of the doormen were good
Disliked: We got scammed by one of the doormen and his taxi driver friend..when leaving we asked to be taken to Newark International Airport, so our bags were loaded into the cab, and we headed to an airport. My partner noticed that the meter wasn't running, so I asked the driver why this was the case, he replied.."Oh we turn the meters off, as we have an agreement with some of the hotels here in the city (NYC), that the fares are a flat rate of $69.00 plus tip".I thought this is pretty good, as when we came in from Newark International, our cab fare was about $105 USD, to the hotel and the trip took about an hour or so.When we arrived at an Airport, the driver asked for his $69.00 and I gave him $20.00 for the tip, he then asked for more, so I gave him another $5.00 before he would unlock the doors and let us out...And everything seemed strange as we had never been to NYC before, but the Airport didn't look the same, nor did the route the driver took, as we got to this airport in a little over 30 minutes..We went inside, the Airport was quite empty and I asked one of people at the counter if it was Newark Airport? and to our surprise it wasn't, it was LaGuardia Airport. Our driver had gone, with my $94.00 USD, and taken us to the wrong Airport. So, a security guard raced us downstairs, took us to the Cab Rank, and we explained to the cab driver what had happened..he was great, he took us to Newark International Airport, taking about 1.5 hours to get there and costing about another $160.00USD.We rang the Hotel to alert them of the scam, and the duty manager at the time was quite dismissive of our complaint, but eventually after numerous phone calls, one of the company directors gave me a call, told me that it was being investigated. He informed me that, my cab fare would be reimbursed, which it was, thankfully.

Exceptional
Liked: Location very central to theater district, Central Park, Times Square, Carnegie Hall. Somehow didn't hear much outside noise. Staff were outstanding--extremely courteous, highly professional and helpful without being overbearing. Room and bathroom were huge (not just for NYC standards but bigger than most standard hotel rooms we've stayed in in other cities) and we just had a standard king room. Housekeeping available daily. Fridge, iron and ironing board, large in room safe, and bathrobes available for use in the room.
Disliked: Walls are very thin--could easily hear conversations from the rooms next door. No microwave.
