Historic hotel has lots of...

Liked: Historic hotel vibes. Room we booked was a mini apartment which was great. It was spacious, well appointed and comfortable. Special shoutout to Geneva at the front desk. Lovely attitude, winning smile and clearly focused on making sure customer experience was as good as possible.
Disliked: Located near bus stop downtown and a lot of homeless or vagrant people on the streets late at night making noise. Would be good if the hotel had a full service restaurant on site. The attached cafe was good but a bit lacking. No alternative to valet parking. The attendants were very good and thankfully it wasn’t busy during our stay. But it would be good to offer self-parking options.

Disappointing - 2.0 out of 5

Nice historically significant hotel, but...

Liked: Bed was very good, room was a good size.
Disliked: Our first impression with the Mayo was good, however we encountered an issue in the room with the sink not draining when we were finally going to retire. A call was made to the front desk who dispatched someone from the maintenance department. The gentleman attempted to use a plunger (no telling what toilette that had just plunged) with no luck. Leaving the plunger on the carpet, he next went to get a drain snake to no avail. Next he returned with a pipe wrench and bucket to disconnect the pea trap which also did not remedy the problem. Mind you, we were in bed while this was going on, and the sink is located in the same room. When the maintenance guy was out of options, he left. I called down to tell them we needed to be moved to another room as the sink was inoperable. We were sent up a room key to another room 6 floors below, we had to change into our street clothes, repack, move to room 211 from 813 and start the process over again. In the morning, the front desk manager was aware of the problem we had, and told us the maintenance dept. had to use a much more aggressive snake to find the pipe clog. You would think that the house cleaning department would have noticed the drain problem before we arrived that evening. We were told to contact a person in accounting who had been sent a directive to adjust our hotel stay along with $30 parking fee. I sent an email to the lady as directed if I had not heard from her within 24 hours, it’s going on day three with no response and their accounting department answering service said that the system was full and could not leave a message. I called the hotel, the front desk told me to call the General Manager, which I did and left him a message. He never returned my call. This place might look great but the promises made to me were not kept. Additionally, they advertise the rooftop restaurant and balcony, one of the main reason why I selected this place, but it was closed, totally disappointed.

A hotel that is not...

Disliked: Beautiful lobby but that’s about it. Our room had a kitchenette, very little furniture with massive empty spaces. Bathroom is very simple and hotel needs a revamp for the price it charges. It doesn’t offer breakfast and WiFi didn’t work at all!
