The Spotlight on The Maynard

Relaxed Country Escape with Easy Access to the City

Modern rustic charm meets peaceful countryside at The Maynard, a stylish boutique hotel nestled in Grindleford Bridge, just 13 miles from Sheffield’s FlyDSA Arena. Surrounded by the rolling beauty of the Peak District, this cozy hotel combines elegant interiors, a welcoming atmosphere, and thoughtful amenities for travelers who want a restful base after a night of live music.
Whether you're heading to a gig in Sheffield or exploring nearby cultural spots like Chatsworth House, The Maynard offers a serene stay with free parking, lush garden spaces, and a restaurant and bar to keep the good vibes going after the show.

Why Concert-goers love it

Concert-goers appreciate the peaceful setting after a loud night out, while still being within easy reach of Sheffield’s concert venues. The 3:00 PM check-in and 11:00 AM check-out offer a flexible window for arriving late or sleeping in after a gig. With free private parking and concierge service, getting to shows and back is stress-free—even if you're coming from Manchester Airport, just 31 miles away.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a stylish, scenic base with shared outdoor space and a bar
  • Solo travelers chasing that dream concert and craving a quiet place to unwind
  • Couples making a romantic weekend of a live music event
  • Fans who want to recover in peace, away from the downtown noise
  • Budget-conscious travelers who value quality but don’t want to splurge on city-center prices

Food and Drink Options

The Maynard’s on-site restaurant and bar offer convenient dining before or after a show, with local ingredients and seasonal menus that reflect the Peak District’s culinary charm. While there’s no 24/7 room service, the hotel’s bar stays open late enough for a nightcap, and breakfast is served to help you recover from the night before. Plus, nearby villages offer walkable pub options for those looking to explore.

Nightlife Options

This is more of a relax-and-recharge kind of spot than a party hub, but that’s what makes it ideal for post-concert recovery. While there’s no on-site live music, the bar offers local ales and craft spirits in a cozy setting. If you're up for more nightlife, Sheffield’s vibrant scene is just a short drive or cab ride away.

What People Say

Guests rave about the gorgeous countryside views, immaculately clean rooms, and the hotel’s friendly, helpful staff. Many mention the peaceful vibe, making it a perfect break after the buzz of a concert. The food also gets high marks, especially the hearty breakfasts and beautifully prepared dinners.

Areas for Improvement

If you're looking for all-night room service or a lively party scene, this might not be your spot. Some guests noted limited public transport options late at night, so pre-booking a taxi back from a venue is smart. Also, being in a historic building, the rooms can vary in size.

The Bottom Line

If you’re after a quiet, classy place to unwind after a concert—without sacrificing comfort or convenience—The Maynard hits all the right notes.

Superb

Liked: We have stayed at The Maynard in the past, so we had no hesitation in rebooking. The rooms are clean and comfortable with tea, coffee and water provided. My husband is a cricket fan and as all the rooms/suites are named after former cricketers, it is a talking point. The Maynard is a beautiful old building with lovely gardens. We have stayed at three of the Longbow hotels and rate them all very highly. The staff at all venues are really friendly and helpful.

Beautiful hotel & delicious food

Liked: Very nice hotel and restaurants where one can sit outside and enjoy the sun at the terrace & garden. The location is extremely beautiful and allow you to go hiking and explore the area around peak district. Breakfast is excellent. We loved it so much. Room is spacious and nicely decorated
Disliked: Because of the beautiful location, it is used as an event location as well. Wall is thin, the wedding guests were loud at night and super inconsiderate about the other guests. It would be nicer if a hotel can have a separate section for this kind of event.

Passable

Liked: The included breakfast was good and had plenty of options. The hotel's pub offered nice food. The bed was comfortable.
Disliked: The room was very small, much smaller compared to how the pictures depicted the rooms/bathroom.There was no air conditioning and the single window was barely opening to ventilate the room. This meant the temperature in the room was too hot, luckily they offered a fan but it was way too noisy. Worth noting that people in other rooms left their room's door open during the day, so overall the noise level was high as well. The shower and sink were covered in small dead flies (likely due to housekeeping leaving the window open before we arrived) - not the best sight when arriving in a hotel room. The water in the shower took a long time to go down the drain making the shower experience not pleasant.

Great hotel and area.

Liked: Nice location for some walking. Hotel was lovely, food was really good.
Disliked: Nothing really just that the room was stuffy. No air getting in through the small window. The room was also cramped, it was a standard double. It didn't really affect our stay.
