Comfortable stay

Liked: location was fabulous, helped by glorious weather.Well appointed and seemingly well maintained old building.A lovely garden area with plenty seating fmto enjoy an outdoor drink/meal
Disliked: On arrival, no staff at reception. Bar staff came to assist when he had finished his bar duties.We were not aware of no lift access to rooms. My wife has osteoarthritis in both knees and I had an ankle injury (perhaps I should have mentioned this when booking?)

Liked: The location was fantastic and the building was beautiful.
Disliked: my shower kept randomly turning itself on late at night which woke me up a few times, the cubicle is also extremely small and I could barely turn around in it. I'm 6'1 and around 190lbs so hardly a giant.The one night I ate in the bar the food was good but the service was lacking, the main I ordered really could have used a side, the root veg mash would have gone well with it, but the server didn't recommend or ask if I'd like one and as I'd never seen the dish I made the assumption it would be ok with out, also there was no check back during my meal to make sure everything was ok.I've worked in hospitality for twenty odd years now and a check back is the most important part of a meal, it lets you fix an issues before they arise.I understand there was a more formal dinning area but I would have felt out of place as I was sweaty and a little dirty after a long hike.The breakfast options are ok but a little basic and the pancakes were disappointing, they described them as "American pancakes" but honestly they were extremely think and barely the size of a round coaster, when. American pancakes are supposed to be thick and fluffy they actually reminded me of thin scotch pancakes.if I'd had to actually pay for them I'd have been disappointed.
