Superb

Liked: Great bedroom and the staff were really lovely and friendly. The breakfast was awesome!! Great base for seeing the local area.
Disliked: The only thing would be instructions on where to park.

Better on the inside

Liked: The room looked like it had been recently refurbished with large clean and modern bathroom. Water, tea & coffee, biscuits and toiletries free in the room.
Disliked: Access to the room is a the back of the pub from a set of metal external stairs. From the outside it looked a bit run down

Ok for a one night...

Liked: The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was tidy and had its own en suite bathroom which was a bit tired, but still OK. The room was good value at £70
Disliked: The location of the hotel was dismal. Set at the end of a dead end, with the only parking being their rear yard off the kitchens alongside their bins. The rooms were also accessed off a steel walkway in this area, so you exited via the rear fire doors, past the kitchen, up concrete steps, then steel stairway etc. you don’t see the more picturesque front until you walk down the dead end (very steep & poor signage) through a single side gate to access the public bar and help from staff. The owners can’t change the structure & location of the property, but they could invest a few £100 to clean up the rear yard, place some pots with flowers around the yard and walkways and put a few extra signs around the end of Dumfries Street and the pub gateway to shops where a single female traveller is meant to go. Anyone less confident would have turned and run in the opposite direction. The staff were pleasant but I’m glad I’d only booked one night and I wouldn’t use it again.

A COMFORTABLE ENOUGH STAY

Liked: Room was clean. Breakfasts were to my liking. Staff attentive, friendly & helpful. I was in Aberdare to attend a family funeral. The funeral tea was held also at the Marquis. A very good spread, more than adequate and not over fussy.

Lovely, fit our party just...

Liked: Manni, was just wonderful and so accommodating. Told us about the property, grounds and sunrise so we could get the most from our stay. I would love to stay here longer next time as we were just passing through.
