Very Good - 4 out of 5

Gary T, Thunder Bay ON Canada Sun, 20 October 2013

Very casual at the Marlborough - I liked that. The old world charm of the hotel. The cleanliness was superb. The staff at the desk were so helpful. Our room was very spacious. More than big enough to get an extra cot in the room. My son hurt his leg and a security personnel brought us a cane to use for the rest of our stay. The complimentary breakfast is the best I ever had, and very good service. Rooms were really clean every day. For one who would only expect a very fancy hotel and small rooms and a high price tag this place is not for you. When you enter, it has a lot of beautiful hardwood and there is a nice bar you can enter from the main floor. The only drawback is there is no parking for the hotel itself. You must pay a price at the parking lots across the street - you have a couple of choices. Smack in viewing distance to all the concert theatres and a multi theatre cinema, and a 2 minute walk to the MTS Centre for the Jets hockey. You cannot ask for more. For an older hotel and a good price downtown do not pass this one up.

Liked: Very nice stay.
Disliked: They do not have their own parking lot.

Disappointing - 2 out of 5

Donovan, Bloomington, visiting Burton Cummings Theatre Sun, 12 May 2013

Wouldn't stay here again. It's not because I'm pretentious it's due to the fact this hotel services indigent population. Our water was brown coming out of the faucet. No one is paying attention to this property and it's visibly worn out. Price and location is good for concert venues but the fact that I had to check in while watching a drunk next to me in the lobby with his zipper down and had urinated on himself was a joke. This place needs to set standards that will attract repeat bookings.

Liked: Nice staff. Close to venues.
Disliked: Worn out lobby, decor; clientele indigent drunks.

It was close to MTS which is where I was headed! My room was outdated and the elevator was really slow. I liked that we received free breakfast with our stay, and the bed was comfy. We couldn't get the AC to work though.

Liked: Location; food.
Disliked: Outdated rooms; restaurant hours.

Poor - 1 out of 5

Matthew C, Winnipeg, MB Mon, 3 October 2011

The rooms were very sketchy. The minute I walked in, I felt dirty and didn't even want to set my bags on the floor. Prime example of a roach motel. The bed was an old spring bed mattress which made it very uncomfortable. The shower was either ice cold or boiling hot as I was standing there with soap in my eyes trying to make adjustments to the faucet. Never did and after 30 minutes in the shower, I gave up, still feeling dirty. Would never in a million years recommend this hotel to anyone ever.

Disappointing

Liked: We didn?t die, it was close to the Bell MTS.
Disliked: Dirty, lots of people just hanging out all over. Found out that they use the hotel for low income patients needing a place to stay for medical needs. They try to say that it?s just downtown folk hanging out but we walked all over downtown and didn?t see the same at any of the other hotels. It?s not the Winnipeg homeless population, they seemed upscale in relation to the ?patrons? here. Placed smelled of cigarette smoke, marijuana, and garbage. The first room they gave us hadn?t been cleaned. The staff gave us another room, dirty and dilapidated at best. I love a little history and character, this was neither. The outside of the building is beautiful, inside is gross. We didn?t dare say anything for fear of our safety. We saw two security guards during our stay. One was in his office every-time we went by, the other seemed like he was trying to do his job.

Great Value

Liked: Choose this hotel due to the proximity to the MTS Center. Location wise It could not be better. Room with two large beds was also a lot bigger than we expected. Breakfast itself can be chosen from a small menu and is ok.
Disliked: A face-lift would make this hotel look a hole lot better. One can only assume the great history of this place. Given we write the year 2020 I would suggest to equip the rooms with free wi-fi in order to compete with other hotels. There is parking all around the premises, the options could be advertised better on the website..

Very good and was an...

Liked: I liked how I was able to get in my room before 3pm and the staff was very nice and helpful when I had a question. They answered all my question and they also helped me when I needed the help
Disliked: I did not like the drinks from the Regal Beagle. I asked for a long Island Ice tea and the woman did not make it right and my spouse asked for a ray and 7up and she did not make the drinks right and they were not done right. I also did not like that there was someone asking for money outside the entrains for the Regal Beagle and there was people that were selling pills out front of the hotel and there was to many drunks that wanted to start a fight with every one that came out of the hotel.

Lots of character, great value...

Liked: It's a grand old hotel with beautiful architectural features that has clearly seen better days, but in a charming way. What we liked: the friendly staff, the great value for money.
Disliked: What we didn't like: the neigbourhood around the hotel, the brownish colour of the tap water and the snappy elevator doors (you have to be quick to get in or out!)
