The Spotlight on The Marine

Seaside Style and Comfort Near the Music

Modern and stylish with a relaxed coastal vibe, The Marine sits proudly on the scenic Tankerton Cliffs, offering stunning views over the Thames Estuary. Just a short drive from the live music scenes of Whitstable and beyond, this charming hotel blends seaside serenity with easy access to the region’s culture and nightlife. Expect bright, spacious rooms with contemporary decor, many featuring balconies or fireplaces, and complimentary WiFi throughout.

Why Concert-goers love it

Music fans appreciate The Marine's peaceful location—far enough from the late-night noise, but still within a 30-minute drive to popular venues in Whitstable, Margate, and Ramsgate. After a high-energy gig, it’s the ideal place to unwind. Flexible check-in from 14:00 gives you time to settle in early, and the scenic setting is a great way to start or end your concert adventure.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends looking for a scenic coastal base
- Solo travelers catching a must-see show
- Couples making a romantic weekend of it
- Fans wanting a quieter post-concert recovery space
- Budget-conscious music fans seeking value without compromising on style

Food and Drink Options

The Marine offers an on-site à-la-carte restaurant serving dishes made with the best local produce. The bar and lounge serve lunch and dinner with gorgeous sea views, and a hearty breakfast is available each morning—perfect for those who stayed out late. While there’s no 24/7 room service, the relaxed dining hours and walkable local eateries make it easy to grab a bite when you need it.

Nightlife Options

Though the hotel itself is more about chilled-out evenings, you’ll find buzzing bars and pubs in nearby Whitstable—just a short drive or taxi ride away. After a gig, head back for a quiet nightcap by the sea in the hotel lounge, or take in the sunset from your balcony.

What People Say

Guests love the calm seaside setting, spacious rooms, and friendly staff. Reviews highlight the excellent food, particularly the breakfast, and many mention how much they value the hotel’s peaceful atmosphere after a night out. The sea views and stylish room amenities also get consistent praise.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests note that the hotel is a bit outside of the town center, so you’ll likely need a car or taxi for concerts and nightlife. Also, while the hotel has a lovely restaurant, late-night food options are limited onsite—so plan ahead if you're coming back hungry after a show.

The Bottom Line

The Marine is a relaxing, stylish option for concert-goers who want great views, comfort, and a peaceful place to recharge after the music fades.

Disappointing stay at the Marine...

Liked: The staff were very nice . The breakfast was fantastic. I
Disliked: I think we had the worst room no 33. It was a chore climbing the stairs. It was noisy all night backing on to the car park with the electric charging system. Toilet was noisy and the mattress was for us was like sleeping on concrete. So turning all night trying to get comfortable. We have stayed all over the world and our mattress to all our beds at home is Simba medium . Never experienced the firmest of this small double. Room looked dirty in the bathroom and very dim. But it was clean just badly spruced up with decorating splaches of paint on the floot. Not sure worth £155 per night

A stressful time not not...

Liked: Room was excellent; saved the hotel from a lower rating. Breakfast excellent and ditto
Disliked: Stayed 13 05 . Booked last minute so i could do a bit of work and a companion could see the beach. Been a guest of others going to this hotel for possibly 20 years. Turned up expecting to use the large lounge area of the hotel but found it all closed to guests because of an "exam". I complained. One of the receptionists got upset. I asked to see the manager. The assistant manager said I should have checked ahead, and in the past, i had been lucky. I said that they represented that the lounge rooms were available on the website and they should post to the contrary if it's regular. It made the whole point of booking thru booking.com pointless to do that. I had already paid more because I had booked slowly. A more helpful receptionist got me into my bedroom early so I could use the Wi-Fi there. Next day, another sign was posted saying the large lounge was again closed "a function" .The weather was inclement, and no joke I've seen less busy airports due to what was left open and available for guests and non-residents. So I stayed in my room as long I could- I had to. Funny thing happened; a group of elderly local ladies arrived for their bottle of prosecco - one of whom I recognised (proving I've stayed too often) . The lounge mysteriously opened for them, so I was able to go in to use it. As far as I could tell, the advertised function never occurred. The takeaway: Do not assume the whole hotel is open as represented, and check. A bizarre suggestion, as it's possibly the most expensive place in Whitstable, but there are plenty of less expensive places if the whole hotel is not open and you need it. The hotel itself needs to decide if it's a hotel or becoming a guesthouse. There are many less expensive options if it is not open. It's no exaggeration to say I stayed on and off 20 years; I even went with my father. Not sure whether I will be able to go back now, certainly not if the facilities are not reliably available.

Okay but bit of a...

Liked: Fantastic location. Staff all lovely and helpful. Food very good. Great places to sit and relax. Lots of storage.
Disliked: Looking a bit rundown, some cobwebs on windows. On multiple occasions I was given food/drink not matching my request. One request didn’t happen at all, seems disorganised. Stayed here multiple times but this is our last visit, too expensive for what we got.
