The Spotlight on The Margate Resort

Lakeside Comfort Meets Concert Convenience in Laconia

Modern comfort meets classic New England charm at The Margate Resort, a relaxing waterfront retreat on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee. Just 3 miles from downtown Laconia and within easy driving distance to local music venues, this resort blends laid-back lake vibes with all the essentials concert-goers need. With three distinct buildings — including lakefront rooms and an inn across the street from the beach — you’ll find options for every style of traveler.

Why Concert-goers love it

If you're heading to a show in Laconia or nearby Gilford, The Margate Resort is a smart pick. It’s close enough to local venues for a quick drive or ride share, yet far enough away to enjoy a peaceful night's sleep after the encore. The property includes an indoor pool and health club for post-show unwinding, and summer guests can enjoy cocktails and live sports on a big screen at the Gazebo Beach Bar. The resort’s flexible layout — some buildings are quieter and more private — gives fans the chance to choose their ideal recovery space.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a fun, social lakeside hangout
  • Solo travelers ticking off a bucket-list concert
  • Couples making a romantic weekend of it
  • Fans who need downtime after a loud night out
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who still want resort vibes

Food and Drink Options

During the warmer months, the Gazebo Beach Bar serves up lunch, dinner, cocktails, and big-screen entertainment right by the water. In the main building, Blackstone's Restaurant offers breakfast daily, with a hot buffet available during summer (for a surcharge). Complimentary coffee, tea, and fresh fruit are also available each morning in the lobby — perfect for a post-concert pick-me-up. While room service isn't 24/7, the walkable setup and local dining options make late-night bites easy to find.

Nightlife Options

While the resort itself is more about lakeside relaxation than raucous nightlife, the seasonal beach bar offers a fun, casual scene with cocktails and a view. For more action, downtown Laconia and surrounding areas have a growing number of bars, pubs, and lounges — many with live music of their own.

What People Say

Guests love the private beach, lakefront views, and the laid-back atmosphere that makes relaxing after a concert feel effortless. Reviewers often mention the clean, comfortable rooms and friendly staff. Many appreciate the option to stay in quieter buildings or be closer to the action, depending on their preference. The indoor pool and sauna are a big hit for guests looking to unwind the next day.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests note that the Inn Building has stair access only, which might be tricky if you're hauling gear or souvenirs from the merch table. The layout can be a little confusing at first, especially with buildings across the street from each other — but once you’re settled, it adds to the resort's charm.

The Bottom Line

With lake views, a private beach, and a quiet but convenient location, The Margate Resort is a relaxing home base for concert-goers headed to Laconia or Gilford.

Liked: The staff in the restaurant were amazing. Hard working, polite, and super nice to talk to. Quality of food especially the omelettes had us going back every morning of our stay.

Disappointing

Liked: Air Conditioning was not able to be set for low temp and it was a very hot weekend. Woke up sweating.
Disliked: Rooms are very outdated and not worth the $500 for the night. Not able to set AC high enough to sleep comfortable. The beds are not quality hotel beds and neither are the pillows and bedding. Room was clean, but otherwise disappointing for the money paid. Apparently they take advantage of their location and is why people are willing to pay, when there is nothing else around that is available.
