The Spotlight on The Local Hostel NYC

Skyline Views and Social Vibes in Long Island City

Modern and welcoming, The Local Hostel NYC offers a relaxed, communal atmosphere just across the East River from Manhattan. Tucked in artsy Long Island City, this hostel blends affordability with urban style, featuring a rooftop terrace with sweeping skyline views, a cozy on-site café bar, and both private and dorm-style rooms—all with private bathrooms.

Why Concert-goers love it

Whether you're headed to a big-name show in Manhattan or a local gig in Queens or Brooklyn, this hostel’s location is a dream. Just a 4-minute walk to the Court Square metro station, you’re only one stop from Midtown and a quick ride to venues like Madison Square Garden and Terminal 5. Late-night returns are no stress thanks to reliable subway lines nearby, and the hostel’s laid-back vibe makes it easy to come and go without fuss. Plus, a 4 pm check-in means you can settle in before the show, and 11 am checkout lets you recover without rushing.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends looking to stay together affordably in a social setting
- Solo travelers chasing their dream concert and craving connection
- Couples making a fun weekend of it on a budget
- Fans who want a chill space to wind down after the encore
- Budget-conscious music lovers wanting comfort without the splurge

Food and Drink Options

The on-site café bar is a huge plus, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner—perfect when you’re hungry after a long night out. Grab a craft beer or cocktail before heading out or settle in with a light bite after the show. While there’s no 24/7 room service, the fully-equipped communal kitchen is open for DIY snacks anytime. And with plenty of coffee and breakfast options available, you’ll be ready to rally the next morning.

Nightlife Options

Start your night with a drink at the hostel’s on-site bar, which often features local brews and casual vibes. Then hop on the subway for easy access to NYC’s best nightlife—whether that’s dancing in Brooklyn, sipping cocktails in Manhattan, or catching a second set at a hidden venue nearby. The rooftop terrace also makes for a great low-key hangout spot with skyline views.

What People Say

Guests love the clean facilities, friendly staff, and the overall community atmosphere. Many highlight the rooftop as a major perk, perfect for pre-show photos or a quiet post-concert unwind. Travelers also appreciate the private bathrooms in every room—a rarity in hostels—and the easy access to the subway.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests note that the dorm rooms can feel a bit tight when fully booked, and the social vibe may not be ideal for those seeking total solitude. Also, while the neighborhood is up-and-coming, it’s quieter than Manhattan—great for rest, but not overflowing with late-night food spots right outside the door.

The Bottom Line

For concert-goers wanting an affordable, social base with skyline views and fast subway access to NYC’s top venues, The Local Hostel NYC hits all the right notes.

Good value for money!

Liked: I really liked this hostel, most of the staff was really nice, the location is really good, the view from the rooftop is incredible and the vibes from the hostel are nice! I also like that they have showers in the bathrooms outside the rooms too so you can shower outside the bedroom if someone else is showering inside. The little bar is really cute and not that expensive.
Disliked: There is room for improvement. I was first in a room that had hangers for each bed but the second room didn’t and it was necessary for coats/towels. I also didn’t like that there isn’t anything to dry your hands with in the rooms, no paper towels, no hand towels, nothing. The girl that did my check-in was not super nice and she never informed that there were activities going on at the hostel and how to know about them. I found out about it when my stay was almost over. I feel like activities held by the hostel should be advertised differently. Besides from that, the rest of the staff was great. They helped me a couple times my key stopped working and also apologized about a guest that wasn’t polite with roomates and had a history of complains (the guest got kicked out which i think was a good decision) I will stay again in October and I hope to enjoy my stay again. Hopefully there will be some improvement coming from constructive criticism
