The Lion is a Grade I-listed building and guests can relax by the Tudor fireplace. Great location/no breakfast.

Liked: Location and parking
Disliked: Lack of breakfast facilities. Noise due to lack of secondary glazing. Light coming from hall way through 30mm gap under door and through curtains. Mis matched antique furniture awaiting restoration stored in the room was an excuse to call it a junior suite. Would usually expect a larger bed in a suite.

Perfectly adequate!

Liked: It certainly is a faded grandure. The location is excellent and it's clean and perfectly adequate for short stay.
Disliked: It saddened us to see such a fabulous property not being invested in. It's an unused gem of a place. It's furnishings are tired and sparce. My imagination was running wild thinking what could be done with this ancient treasure !

Historic building in good location...

Liked: Location
Disliked: This historic building needs lots of maintenance and cleaning. As may be expected, plumbing needed much attention due to water leaks that were not addressed and of course leads to mold issues throughout the building. Staff was happy to continue to let rooms out with active water leaks.

Historic and atmospheric hotel

Liked: A historic, atmospheric hotel located in the heart of Shrewsbury. The hotel does need some updating, but it offers a much more memorable experience than modern chain hotels. My room was simple, but it had everything needed for a short stay. The bed was very comfortable and it was quiet at night. Nice friendly staff and a good overall experience.

A good old-fashioned central city...

Liked: The room was high up with views over the city. Bath and shower, comfortable bed. The staff at reception were truly wonderful - well trained and flexible - we asked for the bar and found the reception staff do that too!
Disliked: Wi-fi was practically non-existent even when I went to the ground floor and was advised the best place to use it. In fact I did a diagnostic which showed that connection to the router was fine, but there was a sluggish route to the internet via London!!! Everything was present in the room except for any kind of chair. For comfort I don't mind sitting on the bed, but not at the desk!

Passable

Liked: Service was fine ,very helpful. I had been told no breakfast so that was not a problem but I had been told we had a room that was just a few steps from ground floor but apparently that had been given to a group so we had to go to the second floor .I didnt want to spoil our one night away by making a fuss but it was very difficult and stopped us going out in the evening because 8 couldn't go up and down. We are people that" make do" but I was not umpressed
Disliked: The carpets were the 9nly real problem generally but I was disgusted with the above.Room itself was fine .access was not

Good value and would stay...

Liked: Great value and clean and convenient. Walking distance to train. Allowed our dog which was the key and unique value vs other hotels.
Disliked: Very dated and needs refurbished.
