The Lion at Malpas

The Lion at Malpas was a beautiful place to stay of very high quality; lovely rooms, tastefully decorated and a great welcome. Would definitely stay again. Absolutely lovely hotel, high standard and staff were lovely.

Liked: Seeing my son playing.
Disliked: Nothing at all.

Lovely accommodation

Liked: Beautiful room with modern facilities, spotlessly clean and a lovely hamper. Joined to a lovely pub. The manager was really friendly and couldn’t have been more helpful.
Disliked: Breakfast was good, but disappointingly small portion sizes and very understaffed - meaning the service was super slow. Also disappointed that croissants were served on the Sunday, but not on the Monday. They were so delicious, so they were very much missed!

The hotel was trying hard...

Liked: Eggs Florentine was very nice. A good range of options for breakfast.
Disliked: Evening meal was poor. We had the chicken. It might as well have been Kentucky fried chicken. Horrid overcooked breadcrumb coating. You had none of your red house wine. One of the wines was disgusting, You agreed but did not deduct from the bill until it was queried. The waiter was willing but very inexperienced, The cheeseboard was good with some excellent local cheese. A great idea to offer a choice of apple celery and frozen grapes, as well as other accompaniments.

Liked: the staff were excelent always helpfull and willing to assist our neesds. The rooms were brilliant both clean and every need catered for was brought up in Malpas in the 1950s so remember the Lion from the old days and liked the way the modernisations over the years have not spoilt it.the manager was particularly helpfull as we tried to recapture our memories of days gone by.
Disliked: there was nothing to dislike.m

Excellent, friendly, comfortable stay.

Liked: Excellent stopover spot, with great food, friendly and welcoming staff and a gorgeous bedroom. Very comfortable bed, super clean room and great evening meal and breakfast options. The Lion was very dog friendly and we felt very well catered for.
Disliked: Nothing.
