The Spotlight on The Liberty A Marriott Luxury Collection Hotel

Historic Luxury Meets Music Vibes in Boston

Modern comfort meets rich history at The Liberty A Marriott Luxury Collection Hotel. Set in a stunning 19th-century former jail overlooking the Charles River, this upscale hotel is nestled at the foot of Beacon Hill—right in the heart of Boston. You'll find a balance of old-world architecture and sleek, contemporary amenities, making it an unforgettable place to stay after the show.
Expect plush guestrooms with flat-screen TVs, a state-of-the-art fitness center, and free seasonal perks like bike rentals and yoga classes. With easy access to the city’s most iconic sites and nightlife, it’s a favorite among fans looking for a stylish retreat between concerts.

Why Concert-goers love it

Concert fans appreciate the unbeatable central location, just minutes from Boston’s top live music venues, including TD Garden and intimate Beacon Hill spots. Despite its buzz-worthy setting, the hotel offers a surprisingly quiet atmosphere for post-show rest. The 4:00 PM check-in is great for those arriving later in the day, and while check-out is at 11:00 AM, the staff is known for flexible, friendly service. Plus, with public transport and rideshares right outside, getting to and from shows is a breeze.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends who want a stylish base close to the action
- Solo travelers checking off a bucket-list gig
- Couples planning a romantic concert weekend
- Fans seeking a relaxed, high-end recovery space
- Budget-conscious fans who are willing to splurge a little for location and experience

Food and Drink Options

The Liberty doesn’t disappoint when it comes to dining. Enjoy late-night bites and cocktails at Alibi, set in the hotel’s former jail cells, or savor modern American cuisine at Clink. For something more upscale, Scampo serves contemporary Italian dishes in a vibrant setting. Looking for a nightcap? The Liberty Bar pours an extensive wine list and craft cocktails in a lively space. Guests love that breakfast is available after a late night out, helping you start the next day right.

Nightlife Options

With on-site bars like Alibi and The Liberty Bar offering an energetic scene and creative drinks, you don’t have to go far for the afterparty. But if you're still up for more, Boston’s best lounges and pubs are just a short walk or Uber away. The hotel’s Beacon Hill location places you within easy reach of live music venues and vibrant nightlife hotspots.

What People Say

Guests rave about the hotel’s unique architecture and luxurious rooms. The location gets top marks for convenience, especially for fans attending shows at nearby venues. Travelers love the vibe—upscale but not stuffy—and highlight the quality of the on-site restaurants and bars. Many say it’s their go-to for special weekends in the city.

Areas for Improvement

While the building’s historic charm is a highlight, some guests note that certain rooms can be on the smaller side. Also, the price point is on the higher end, so it might not suit those on a tight budget—but many feel the experience is worth the splurge.

The Bottom Line

If you’re looking for a stylish, centrally located hotel with serious character and concert-ready convenience, The Liberty is one of Boston’s best picks.

I regret booking this stay...

Liked: Two things I liked about the property:1) the history2) the cleaning ladies & the valet men
Disliked: 1) very hot in the rooms (air conditioner says 65 but it feels like 75-80 the entire time)2) no early check ins3) pretty dirty and run down3) late night room service randomly closes early (it’s supposed to be available during the weekend— and it wasn’t)4) no coffee, water, or other amenities in the room5) the worst pillows/ beds I’ve ever used6) the front desk staff are cold and appear disassociated 90% of the time***this place needs better management because it is a real mess***

Lovely staff

Liked: The front of house staff were delightful. Helpful and very conscientious. Looked after us and allowed late check out. The pork dumplings in the bar were superb, absolutely delicious!
Disliked: The room was was quite shabby and tired. Comfortable beds but noisy with doors in corridor opening & closing all the time.

Pleasant

Liked: Location
Disliked: The bathroom seemed like it was in the middle of a renovation. The ceiling has a crack and the walls had weird patches of spackle. The tile in the shower was also split in the middle. Weird for a "luxury" hotel who won't even give you a water bottle at the front desk

It was fun staying there...

Liked: The breakfast was great, although I know now to order a small bowl of the oatmeal.
Disliked: The lighting was rather dim in most of the common areas which caused me to move a little slower than usual. I booked this specific hotel because it was within walking distance to MA Eye & Ear Infirmary which was the reason for my trip to Boston.
