Poor - 1.0 out of 5

Naomi S, Devon, visiting Reading Festival Wed, 30 August 2023

It was the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in, in my entire life. The rooms stank of overused bleach; the furniture was super old and the decor was awful; we didn’t want to drink from the plastic cups provided that were all wrapped up in wet and covered bags in bleach on the bathroom sink. There was a conference chair in the room used for the desk, it was awful. I just don’t know how to explain it, stayed in far FAR better places for less money than that. It was dirty; looked like an abandoned building, basically, that had a load of old furniture in it. It felt like an apocalypse. I FELT SCARED! Not to mention looking outside around the building there were stacks of old bricks /weeds, and even when we were walking to our room there were abandoned rooms. With old tea cups on view though the windows / even the clean laundry for making up beds was on display in a disgusting room. I would give this hotel no stars. There was a problem with checking in the reception, they really worried us as he couldn’t find the booking and charged us an extra.

Liked: Nothing.
Disliked: Everything.

Poor - 1.0 out of 5

Staff were pleasant. Rooms were small but very clean. Breakfast was OK. But everything good was negated by the fact that there was a cat in the hotel. It was allowed to run around freely - it was in reception, being taken up to the rooms by residents and running around while we were served breakfast. I am allergic to cats so had an itchy throat and eyes etc., but allergy aside, I think this is totally unacceptable. This surely creates a health and safety issue? Are animals allowed in an environment where the public are being served food? And where you pay £90 for a bed for one night? Not impressed. Would definitely not stay at this hotel again.

Liked: Rooms were clean.
Disliked: Allowing a cat to be in the hotel.

Liked: This is awkward to answer because the management transferred me to their adjacent Park International hotel so I did not in fact stay at The Lawn. But that was fine for me., especially as The Lawn Hotel does not have a lift and the Park of course does (and I am 85 years old and a little dog with me).

Liked: We were located in the Parkside International Hotel, rather than The Lawns on arrival - they are next to each other. We have stayed in the Parkside several times before, always on the 2nd floor, all satisfactory. They serve a superb breakfast, cooked to order. Plenty of free parking. Friendly, efficient staff. Very convenient location for our needs.
Disliked: On this occasion we had a room on the 2nd floor with exceptional noise coming from adjacent rooms until after 4am - we were then woken at 6am by a woman knocking on our door to apologise for the noise. Not what you need after less than 2hrs sleep! Our schedule for the day had to be changed as we lacked the staying power to complete everything! Ended up staying an extra night elsewhere to finish what we came for. We are loathe to use this hotel again in case that experience is repeated. Shame as it is a competitive price & such a convenient location for us.

Liked: Whilst we booked the Lawn Hotel on both occasions we have be accomdated in the neighbouring Parkside Inernational so can't really comment on the Lawn. The Parkside is OK. It's on the A4 and has a large free car park.If you book for the Lawn you get breakfast included. The room was a decent size with a double and single bed in it (we'd booked a twin) and the beds were quite good. The cooked to order breakfast was good.I would come again
Disliked: The bathroom and other fixtures were showing signs of age - the shower curtain was rustyThe TV had NO streaming services at all so my decision to leave me laptop and HDMI lead at home was a mistake

Very good

Disliked: Hotel is not the one pictured. There is a sign on door indicating the Parkside Hotel - this is the hotel you end up staying in. You should change this photo to the Parkside.
