The Spotlight on The Lambton Worm

Classic British Charm Meets Concert Convenience

A warm and welcoming inn in Chester-le-Street, The Lambton Worm offers a traditional British pub atmosphere with modern comforts. Just a short drive from major North East concert venues, this cozy B&B is ideal for music fans looking for a friendly base with a local vibe. Featuring en-suite rooms, a popular on-site restaurant, and a well-stocked bar, it’s a charming blend of comfort and convenience.

Why Concert-goers love it

Located just 1.6 miles from Lumley Castle and within easy reach of Newcastle and Sunderland gig destinations, The Lambton Worm makes show nights a breeze. With free on-site parking and a 24-hour front desk, late arrivals are no problem. The peaceful village setting means a quieter night’s sleep after the encore, while the warm pub downstairs keeps the energy going post-show.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends who want a laid-back base with pub access
- Solo travelers chasing a bucket-list tour
- Couples looking for a cozy weekend escape
- Fans needing quiet recovery after a big gig
- Budget-conscious music lovers who don’t want to skimp on comfort

Food and Drink Options

The Lambton Worm serves up hearty British fare all day long, with breakfast available each morning — ideal after a late night out. The on-site restaurant is known for its local specialties, and the pub offers a selection of ciders, beers, and wines. While there’s no 24/7 room service, the friendly bar staff and evening dining options make it easy to refuel.

Nightlife Options

While the B&B itself doesn’t host live music, the on-site pub atmosphere is lively and authentic. You’re also within easy reach of bars and clubs in Durham and Newcastle for those wanting to keep the night going. It’s a relaxed spot to grab a pint before or after the show.

What People Say

Guests love the friendly staff, clean and comfy rooms, and the pub's excellent food. Many reviewers highlight the convenient location for events at Lumley Castle and nearby venues, and the free parking is a big bonus. It’s often described as “great value” and “full of character.”

Areas for Improvement

Some guests mention that the rooms can be a bit compact, and there’s no lift, so upstairs rooms may be a slight challenge with heavy luggage. Being a pub inn, it can have a little buzz on weekend nights — perfect for social butterflies, but light sleepers may want to pack earplugs.

The Bottom Line

For concert-goers seeking a mix of affordability, local charm, and convenience, The Lambton Worm hits the right note.

Lots of potential but falls...

Liked: Friendliness of staff and cleanliness of facilities.
Disliked: Lack of choice at breakfast. No mushrooms, no black pudding, tinned tomatoes as run out of fresh, ran out of yoghurts and fruit and burnt tough croissants. No ketchup available either and they also ran out of filter coffee and wouldn’t make any more as breakfast is deemed to be finished after 9am.

Very disappointed with the room,...

Liked: Location was ok for us, pub itself was very good. Restaurant meal was good and staff were great. There was entertainment both nights , quite good artists. Friendly atmosphere.
Disliked: We were very disappointed with the room, it was very small, hardly any room to walk round the bed. Bathroom was quite large but no blinds or curtains, only frosted glass. If we got this room again, we wouldn't stay! Other rooms were much bigger. Very disappointed.. The room was the Nelson.

Liked: The room was nicely decorated and clean. The staff were very pleasant.
Disliked: The door from the street outside to the bedrooms was not locked and could be accessed by anyone at any time. The door to the room did not have a secure lock. Lack of soundproofing between rooms. The stair and corridor carpets were very stained. The Breakfast was poor, just not enough staff to do so many covers.
