Charming Canalside Retreat Near Birmingham’s Live Music Scene

Nestled along a peaceful canal in Knowle, The King's Arms by Innkeeper's Collection blends traditional British charm with a cozy countryside vibe. Just a 15-minute drive from Birmingham International Airport and a quick train ride from Birmingham city center, it’s a relaxing base for concert-goers looking to balance music and tranquility.

Why Concert-goers love it

With Dorridge Rail Station only 5 minutes away, getting to Birmingham’s top music venues is a breeze—just a 20-minute train ride gets you into the heart of the city. After the show, you’ll come back to a quiet, countryside setting perfect for winding down. The 12:00 PM checkout is helpful if you’re recovering from a late gig, and free private parking adds extra convenience for drivers.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends who want a relaxed pre-show hangout with food and drinks
- Solo travelers catching a dream concert and wanting a safe, scenic base
- Couples turning a gig into a romantic countryside weekend
- Fans needing peace and quiet after a loud night
- Budget-conscious music lovers looking for value with charm

Food and Drink Options

Enjoy seasonal British dishes at the adjoining King's Arms pub, which offers a cozy bar and a scenic beer garden with canal views—a perfect place to grab a bite before heading out. While there’s no 24/7 room service, the pub stays open late for evening meals and drinks. Breakfast is available the next morning to help ease into the day after a late night.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel's vibe is more relaxed than rowdy, guests love the quaint pub atmosphere with local ales and countryside views. For a livelier scene, Birmingham’s bars and clubs are just a train ride away, making it easy to mix serenity with city nightlife.

What People Say

Travelers consistently praise the picturesque setting, friendly staff, and comfortably furnished rooms. The on-site pub adds a social touch, and many guests enjoy the calm location after a busy day in Birmingham. The free parking and proximity to rail links are frequently noted as major pluses.

Areas for Improvement

Rooms are a bit basic and traditionally styled, which may not appeal to those looking for modern luxury. There's no air conditioning, so summer stays can get warm. Also, while the pub is a gem, food service can be slow during peak times.

The Bottom Line

For concert-goers who want easy access to Birmingham without the bustle, The King’s Arms offers a peaceful, affordable, and charming stay with local flavor.

Will be back in September

Liked: Lunch and breakfast excellent. Though the room was a tad small it was very comfortable and clean. Excellent location by the Canal to relax with a beer before dinner
Disliked: No fault of the King's Arm, but National Grid had a power failure while our Dinner was being cooked so we had to pop into Knowle for something to eat

A very nice hotel in...

Liked: The location was perfect - right by the canal, where we were walking. The hotel was comfortable and our room was very clean and attractively decorated.
Disliked: Our room was lovely but it had no opening window which meant the room was hot on this particularly hot night!

Very good location for Badesley...

Liked: Great to sit outside late afternoon in the sun with a drink. Very talented singer in the evening but it was quiet when we went to bed which was good.
Disliked: The bedroom was so very tiny as was the bathroom! Not brilliant as disabled.

Whilst standard of room was...

Liked: Restaurant and bar good, food good too. Location by Grand Union canal great and loads of car parking.
Disliked: Room small, could hardly fit 2 suitcases in and minimal space between bed and wall. Bathroom compact but otherwise good. Other issue was with windows open noise from fans from kitchen until around midnight, with windows closed room hot and stuffy as no A/C.
