The Spotlight on The Kendall Hotel at the Engine 7 Firehouse

Historic Charm Meets Concert Convenience in Cambridge

Originally an 1894 firehouse, The Kendall Hotel at the Engine 7 Firehouse blends classic Victorian architecture with modern comforts in the heart of Cambridge. Located right next to the MIT campus and steps from the Kendall/MIT T station, it's a unique boutique stay with serious character—and just a short ride from downtown Boston’s top music venues.

Why Concert-goers love it

Its prime location near the Red Line makes getting to concerts at Fenway Park, TD Garden, or House of Blues a breeze—no car needed. The hotel offers a quiet, cozy retreat after a high-energy night out, with individually decorated rooms and plush bedding that’s perfect for winding down. Bonus: check-in starts at 3 PM, giving you plenty of time to settle in before the show.

Who this Hotel is great for

Groups of friends will love the easy access to nightlife and nearby eateries.
Solo travelers catching a once-in-a-lifetime show will feel right at home in the secure, friendly environment.
Couples will appreciate the romantic historic decor and weekend getaway vibes.
Fans needing a quiet recovery space will enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and comfy accommodations.
Budget-conscious music lovers get great value, especially with breakfast included.

Food and Drink Options

Fuel up with a daily breakfast buffet—perfect after a late night out. While there’s no on-site restaurant for dinner, you’re just steps away from great walkable dining options in Kendall Square. Craving a post-show bite? There's no 24/7 room service, but nearby late-night spots and delivery apps have you covered.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel itself is more about quiet charm than on-site partying, it's perfectly placed near Kendall Square’s bars and lounges. Hop on the T for a quick ride to Boston’s bustling nightlife districts, or sip a nightcap at one of the local craft beer spots nearby.

What People Say

Reviews rave about the hotel’s one-of-a-kind atmosphere, historic charm, and attentive staff. Guests love the super convenient location for concerts and city exploring, as well as the clean, well-maintained rooms. The breakfast also gets high marks, especially for being included.

Areas for Improvement

While the hotel’s vintage charm is a major plus, some rooms can feel a bit compact. There’s no on-site gym, though guests get free access to a nearby fitness center. And if you're looking for a party vibe, this is more of a wind-down kind of place.

The Bottom Line

For concert-goers who want a historic boutique stay with easy access to Boston’s music scene, The Kendall Hotel is a cozy and convenient choice.

Close to everything in Kendall...

Liked: Unique and carefully maintained.
Disliked: Room felt a bit cramped but that comes with the nature of the place which is using original architecture

Pleasant

Liked: reception service people was nice.
Disliked: The breakfast is too simple.Taxi experience is too bad. I asked the reception to order the taxi, the taxi driver looks unhappy when he saw I have 2 suitcases, and there was very dirty inside the taxi with bad smell. Hope hotel could find better taxi company for guests in the future.

Great location, but not worth...

Liked: Location in Cambridge/MA, right at the T-station Kendall/MIT.
Disliked: The place looks a bit run down and hasn't changed at all over the last 20 years. The interior of the hotel looks a bit outdated. The support by the staff is really poor: I had flight cancellations and it took me 5 hours until I could talk to a real person to handle the booking. Really annoying. Furthermore, my booking via Booking.com was mishandled and instead of a booked King Size bed we have received a Queen Size bed. Finally, the hotel is overpriced for the value they are providing.

We were very disappointed that...

Liked: We liked the interior of the property and the lobby area.
Disliked: Our reservation was approved but when we arrived late at night, we were just told there was no room for us. And just it. We were forced to go and find another place to sleep.. in the middle of the night. Thankfully they didn’t charge us
