Modern and full of personality, The Hotel Zags Portland is a boutique hotel nestled in downtown Portland, just a few minutes’ walk from the city’s vibrant live music venues and cultural spots. With over 500 pieces of local art on display, a cozy outdoor fire pit, and a stylish vibe, this hotel blends creative energy with comfortable touches. Guests enjoy complimentary continental breakfast, on-site dining inspired by the French and Italian Riviera, and access to a nearby 24-hour gym and lap pool. Stylish and welcoming, this is a downtown stay designed for both energy and ease.

Why Concert-goers love it

Location is everything — and The Hotel Zags delivers. You’re within walking distance of major venues and nightlife, but just far enough to enjoy a quieter night’s sleep. The 12:00 PM checkout gives you a little extra time to recover after a late show, while the 24-hour concierge is ready to help with transport tips or post-concert bites. Plus, the on-site patio and fire pit make for a great place to debrief the night with friends before heading in.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a stylish base near the action
  • Solo travelers checking off a bucket-list tour stop
  • Couples turning a concert into a weekend getaway
  • Fans who want a quiet space to recharge post-show
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who still want boutique comforts

Food and Drink Options

On-site, Zags Restaurant & Patio offers Mediterranean-inspired fare perfect for dinner before the show or a late bite after. While full 24/7 room service isn’t offered, the restaurant stays open into the evening and there are plenty of great eateries within walking distance. The complimentary continental breakfast is a nice touch after a night out, and coffee-making facilities in every room mean you can start your day at your own pace.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel itself leans more chill than party, you’re just a few blocks from Portland’s buzzing bar and live music scene. Craft breweries, cocktail lounges, and music venues are all nearby. Back at the hotel, the fire pit and patio offer a more relaxed way to wind down with friends and a drink.

What People Say

Guests consistently rave about the hotel’s artistic design and modern rooms, as well as the friendly, helpful staff. Many highlight the excellent downtown location and how walkable it is to concerts, restaurants, and the riverfront. The stylish yet comfortable vibe makes it a hit with creative travelers and music fans alike.

Areas for Improvement

This hotel doesn’t offer full-service late-night room service, which might be a miss if you’re coming in really late and craving a snack. Some guests mention that the rooms aren’t huge — but they’re well-designed and efficient for a short concert-centered stay.

The Bottom Line

If you’re looking for a stylish, walkable downtown Portland hotel with local flair and quiet comfort after a show, The Hotel Zags Portland hits all the right notes.

Had a memorable time in...

Liked: Loved so many things about this place. The first thing that got my attention in this hotel was their patio with fireplace. The location is great with close proximity to so many downtown locations. The overall ambience of the hotel was so cool, room was clean, bed was amazing and the daily smores in the evening by the fireplace in the patio was so relaxing. Staff were very friendly. Breakfast being included saved a lot of time and effort in planning the day properly. Parking was a bit pricey in the hotel but we managed to find alternate free/cheaper options with street side parking. Additionally, they have so many items such as bikes, scooters, beach chairs, picnic blankets and so many others to rent for free based on your needs.
Disliked: Bathroom tub and shower in our room were not that great. Not that bad to request a room change though

The hotel had everything we...

Liked: When we first arrived at the hotel, we weren’t impressed with the position in town — it didn’t quite match our expectations and we questioned our choice. But as we settled in, things started to shift. The location turned out to be ideal, the room was clean and comfortable and the on-site facilities were much better than we’d anticipated. Rose was very knowledgeable at the front desk, the restaurant served up great food, the complimentary breakfast was generous and well done and little touches like the kids area, free hire of equipment, complimentary S’mores by the firepit and the relaxed happy hour added a real sense of charm. What really changed everything, though, was the painting event hosted by Srhawn on Saturday. It wasn’t just an activity — it created a real atmosphere of fun, creativity and community. By the end of our stay, what started as a questionable choice had completely transformed into one of our most memorable and enjoyable getaways. Thank you Srhawn and the team at Hotel Zags.
Disliked: The only downside to our stay was having to leave — everything was so comfortable, welcoming and well thought-out that we genuinely didn’t want our stay to end.
