This is a 2-star experience...
Liked: The Athletic Club is impressively well-equipped—top-notch machines, free weights and everything you need for a serious workout. But the whole setup gives off serious Handmaid’s Tale vibes: it’s men-only, with women relegated to a separate gym elsewhere. Feels outdated and awkward in 2025. Great facility, strange philosophy.
Disliked: The Hotel Captain Cook is an overpriced, underwhelming tourist trap of note. We booked a junior suite and to our disbelief, the room was never serviced the entire stay, despite reporting it twice to reception. Apparently, even basic housekeeping is too much to ask. The front desk staff are poorly trained and seemed genuinely burdened by the simplest requests. Asking for clean towels felt like we were negotiating a diplomatic treaty. And then came the best part: they had the audacity to suggest the lack of service was due to “peak tourist season”—as if that somehow excuses incompetence. Truly astonishing.

Very enjoyable stay overall
Liked: Very Clean. Spacious room. Good location with restaurants and bars very close and also cycle hire shops. Close to cycle trail. Very well organised staff as hotel caters for very many cruise ship passengers and group functions.
Disliked: Bathroom only had one shampoo for two guests. Had soap but no shower gel. Had food from The Cubby but the egg in breakfast muffin was icy cold in the centre. Chai latte was ok but have had a lot better in Alaska. Bathroom very dated decor when considering cost of stay.
