The Highdown - Brunning and Price

Staff attitude indifferent; rooms very tired and in need of redecoration. Not one piece of clean glassware or crockery - everything just put on table without checking. Location fine but do not choose this place for a special occasion!

Liked: Beautiful surroundings. Problem at bar rectified with no problem by manager
Disliked: Unfortunately we found the bed hard and the room very cold. We put the heating on but did not come on till the morning. Overcharged on drinks. Maybe a minor error by an inexperienced member of bar staff.

Lovely venue, welcoming staff and...

Liked: Check in was smooth and simple. The room was lovely, good size & excellent en suite facility. We had booked a table with 2 other family to dine in the evening. The food and service was good, but Eleanor the waitress, who was most attentive at our table, appeared to be rushed off her feet as the evening progressed. At breakfast for 2 mornings once again good food, freshly prepared. thank you.
Disliked: Parked my car near as possible to accommodation, as have a pacemaker / cardiac condition. Sadly overnight there was heavy shower, which effectively covered the car in tree 'detritus' , including sticky nectar or similar. The venue is notable for it's wide range of plants, so I should have been more careful perhaps. On the Sat. evening an overloud diner at a nearby table, damaged the ambience with frequent guffaws. 20th C Hooray Henry perhaps.
