A pleasant surprise!
Liked: The place is beautiful. The restoration of the house, that was built in 1890, was excellent. The bed was really comfortable. The decor is beautiful. It is really a great place to stay. I may visit again in the Fall.
Disliked: The only complaint that I is that there was no air conditioner.

My wife and I had...
Liked: Very helpful and thoughtful hosts, great location in Harlem, many nice restaurants and coffeeshops nearby, comfortable beds, and the residence itself has a lot of character.
Disliked: Best to bring your own soap and shampoo.

Liked: Authentic house in a calm street. Blue and red subway lines on a short walking distance. The room was quite large and was well heated, which was nice because it was cold outside. Some nice bars and restaurants in the area as well.
Disliked: The bed could have been a bit larger (it was about 1m40 wide). I also do prefer white bedlinen and towels, like one usually gets in hotels, as that gives me more trust in the cleanliness. I would like to suggest a showerhead for the bath.

We had a lovely stay...
Liked: The room was beautiful and decorated in a lovely way. Bathrooms were clean and there was a pleasant atmosphere in the lobby. Lovely location close to the subway, restaurants and shops. The bed was comfortable and there was heating in the room which was perfect as we visited NYC in February. It was great to have a sink in the room.
Disliked: Bathrooms were quite dimly lit, nothing that concerned us but made figuring out how to use the shower a little bit difficult. It would have been nice to have a kettle and some mugs/wine glasses in the room.

Liked: The house and rooms felt full of history, wonderful original features, very comfortable bed and lovely bathroom. It was really helpful to leave our luggage there the day we left, and the communication was great

Perfect for our 7 day...
Liked: Perfectly situated Harlem brownstone, only 3-5 min from the next subway station (lines ABCD) or bus stop. We gained access through a door code that was sent to us via email and were greeted by a friendly sign with my name and room number on it. We only briefly met our host René (who was traveling during our stay) but were able to have a few friendly chats with his assistant Tyler.
Our room was comparably large and we shared a bathroom with another guest room. Everything was very clean and our bed was regularly made.
Since the brownstone is an old house the wood floor and stairs creak and the doors do not close as tightly. This was not a problem for us since we were traveling during the down season in January and only a few other guests were present. The street itself was not very busy and actually very quiet for NYC during most of the night. We felt very safe and can only recommend staying at the Harlem Flophouse!
Very good Wifi, very good water pressure ;)
Disliked: Not much to complain. I advise to bring ear plugs as one might hear noise from other guests or from the street. If you are allergic to cats you might want to consider staying elsewhere. Since the room was very clean and Phoebe the cat was not given access to the guest rooms I managed without any major reactions.

Interesting house, very interesting location.
Liked: The house was historic. Location was very cool.
Disliked: Cleanliness - the towels smelt mouldy.
