Great potential, mediocre experience.
Liked: Good location, easy to find and within very easy walking distance to public transport, restaurants/bars/cafes and everyday shops (grocery, chemists, newsagents, bookshop etc). Decor pleasant. Lovely bathrobes. Good quality tea in-room.
Disliked: Pre Check-in - asked for hypoallergenic bedding, was told that the bedding is all laundered at a high quality?! Explained I meant that hypoallergenic refers to the filling in pillows and duvet - no response. Check in - no offer to help with bags, no lift, didn't feel welcome at all - no explanation of bar area/breakfast options and why wouldn't you try to upsell the dinner options at the sister hotel?! Why not just get guests to insert their booking number & credit card into an iPad and give them a room code? There was literally no benefit to having a person on the desk at check in. (though handy later, when I needed an iron). Room 12 - a/c on but window open; very smelly from shower area; no toilet paper by the loo - found it in the trolley on the far side of the bed which I thought a weird spot to park the bathroom-specific supplies?! finish was bad (grouting/painting around the shower room door). No phone in room. TV programmed to "red button" by default - why?! So then everything else became more annoying - eg UHT milk (you can do the fresh milk in sachets - especially when you have a fridge), poorly presented tea & coffee sachets etc, etc - it felt as though the owner hadn't visited in a while. Services - Guest Services guide says you can ask for things to be brought to the room (eg drinks, iron etc) - but you have to go to the reception desk to ask for it. No idea how breakfast worked at all so I didn't use it - looked like a good spread though! The backstory of quirky & fun was not reflected in the service which was generally disengaged and bored.
