The Great Southern Hotel

Liked: Great location. Super close to central station, supermarket, restaurants and the ICC Theatre. The staff is also very nice.

Great spot to crash after a concert, however it is very basic. Definitely a few issues with the room such as the bathroom ventilation, old pipes and lack of power of mini fridge, however for one night it is fine. Probably wouldn’t be great for more than a one night stay.

Disliked: The bathroom was not well ventilated, and they don’t provide a foot mat in the bathroom (so it gets very wet). The mini fridge is also very weak in power.

Convenient for a short stay.

Liked: Good location - close to public transport.Staff friendly and helpful.Dining was reasonable - Tasty "pub" food.
Disliked: Mattress was rather lumpy - maybe a mattress topper would help.Similar with pillows.Only way to watch TV was sitting on the bed with squashy pillows to lean on - not at all comfortable.Window couldn't be opened/ temperature on air-con could not be adjusted - therefore room became stuffy at times.

Liked: I have been staying at the Great Southern Hotel, when I am in Sydney, for the last 3-4 years, after they renovated it and upgraded the bathrooms and rooms. It is a classic old hotel with heaps of charm, so don't expect the decor to be too modern. The price is very good for Sydney CBD. Very friendly staff and 24 hour desk. It is so well located. Right near Chinatown, Paddy's Market and short walk to Darling Harbour.The Light rail is right out the front on George Street, and it’s a 5 minute walk to Central Railway station with a direct line to the airport. No parking though, except at parking garages which are expensive. Much better suited for those using public transport.The pub has great food, delicious and generous serving at a great price with a different blackboard special each day.I will be staying there again.
