The Spotlight on The Gore

Historic Charm Meets Rock 'n' Roll in South Kensington

Modern concert-goers with a love for classic London style will feel right at home at The Gore. This boutique hotel, established in 1892, oozes Victorian elegance with a rock-and-roll twist. Located in the heart of South Kensington, you're just a short stroll or Tube ride from world-renowned music venues and buzzing nightlife. Each of the 50 rooms is individually styled with antique furnishings, four-poster beds, and luxurious linens from Italian brand Frette—a perfect mix of comfort and character.

Why Concert-goers love it

You can practically hear the encore from here. The hotel’s central location means you're close to major venues like the Royal Albert Hall and easy transport links to the West End’s theaters and arenas. After the show, retreat to a quiet, character-filled room that feels miles away from the city's noise. With a check-in time of 15:00 and check-out at 11:00, it gives you just enough flexibility to sleep in after a late night.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends who want a memorable, stylish stay with music history baked in
  • Solo travelers ticking off a bucket-list gig nearby
  • Couples making a romantic concert weekend of it
  • Fans who crave a quiet, plush place to decompress post-show
  • Budget-conscious music fans who don’t mind splurging a little for the experience

Food and Drink Options

The Gore’s on-site restaurant serves up classic British cuisine with elegance, and it’s open late enough to welcome back post-concert diners. If you're still buzzing from the show, Bar 190 is a must-visit — this iconic bar was the site of The Rolling Stones’ Beggars Banquet launch. You’ll find a deep collection of whiskeys and rums, and breakfast is available the next morning — perfect for those who hit snooze a few times.

Nightlife Options

Bar 190 isn’t just historic, it’s a destination in itself with a stylish, moody vibe ideal for pre- or post-show drinks. Step outside and you're within walking distance of Kensington’s swanky bars or a short Tube ride from Soho and Covent Garden’s nightlife scenes. Whether you want a relaxed cocktail or to keep the party going, you’ve got options.

What People Say

Guests rave about the hotel’s unique rooms, calling them “romantic,” “artistic,” and “full of character.” Many highlight the friendly staff, central location, and the immersive atmosphere that feels like “stepping into another time.” Live music lovers especially appreciate the hotel’s musical legacy and proximity to iconic venues.

Areas for Improvement

Some reviewers mention smaller room sizes and older plumbing in certain rooms, but most agree that the historic charm and attention to detail more than make up for it. If you're expecting ultra-modern minimalism, this probably isn't your vibe — but if you love Old London character, you'll be thrilled.

The Bottom Line

For concert-goers craving a stylish stay steeped in music history, The Gore offers the perfect blend of location, legacy, and late-night comfort.

A most comfortable and welcoming...

Liked: The rooms were beautiful; bed comfy; extra details very thoughtful eg. umbrellas, shoe shine kit, robes, slippers etc. and immaculately clean. Staff friendly and general hotel services excellent - eg. Room service, luggage storage and Reception assistance - attentive and very willing to help. The staff here truly went the extra mile to make the stay enjoyable from helping us source the iron and board to calling for taxis. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble. The communal areas were dramatic and luxurious with plenty of little nooks to while away a relaxing hour or so. A perfect stay.
Disliked: Breakfast in the restaurant didn’t seem up to the same excellent standard of the rest of the hotel; on consecutive mornings coffee orders or extra toast were forgotten or toast was finished before drinks arrived; I had emailed ahead to ensure vegan options were available but on arrival the breakfast options pretty much came down to toast though no vegan margarine was available on day 2 as had run out; asked for balsamic vinegar to soften toast and was given a pot of neat vinegar.
