The Gissons Hotel

Fine as an overnight motel...

Liked: Up to date tidy room, plenty of parking and well located for nearby concert at Powderham castle. Easy to find and easy to get to Exeter from here.
Disliked: The bar and restaurant was shut. The gardens and grounds of the hotel were overgrown which doesn’t give off the best first impression when you arrive. The entire premises was shut (bizarre) until 3pm - seems they’re currently operating with a skeleton crew. Whilst the one member of staff we did see was friendly enough, he was dressed in a t-shirt and baseball cap with no identifying name badge or id. It didn’t give off a very professional impression.

Warm friendly welcome , exceeded...

Liked: Great location for an event we were going to. Room was vary big and there were fans / air con units provided as unusually hot temperatures.
Disliked: External appearance looks a little run down but internally it was great

Liked: It was clean. Plenty of parking. Air con.
Disliked: We paid for a deluxe room, (£85.00). The room we were given was small & cramped. No chair at the desk. The bar/restaurant wasn't open. Under refurbishment apparently. Although it's been like that for months.

Needs a lot of T.L.C!

Liked: Great location for the Duran Duran concert at Powderham Castle.
Disliked: The bedroom floor was dusty, with no side lamps, sink had a crack in it, dirty marks on headboard! Curtains in the room badly threadbare in creases, see daylight through them. Bathroom floor very noisy sqeeks alot!!! Overground weeds and grass outside, tables and chairs outside dusty and cobwebs on them. (This property should not currently be rated as a 4*)! HOTEL requires a lot of TLC. Disappointing no bar for a long time, apparently - more than a year!

Liked: Lovely and clean
Disliked: It was shut because we arrived an hour before check in. I rang the number and he did let us in. No food or bar. He said he was the only member of staff. Didn’t see anyone at all then for the two days. We just let ourselves in and out. Room was lovely and clean and had everything we needed
