Watchet’s place to stay -...
Liked: We booked to stay here prior to a wedding venue close by. It’s a nice quirky place in the centre of Watchet. We arrived and phoned the number of the Georgian House and Sharon, the Housekeeper, came to let us in. Sharon is the ‘star of the show’. She welcomed us, showed us to our rooms, gave us all the information we needed to know about the place and the plan for breakfast the next morning. As a couple, we had the yellow room on the second floor, a double with an en-suite, with a shower over the bath. My mother-in-law had the blue room on the same floor, a smaller double, but with a walk-in shower which would be a preference if we returned. As it’s an old house the plumbing is via macerators, so it can be a bit noisy. The rooms, beds and pillows were clean and comfy. The breakfast was fresh orange juice, tea or coffee and cereals and a cooked English breakfast to order by the owner - bacon, sausage, egg, mushrooms, hash brown, tomato, beans and toast. Sharon was again on hand, serving and keeping us entertained, and we found that it’s a small world with common interests and places we’ve lived and visited. Before we left Sharon showed us the fab red suite on the first floor - a king sized bedroom, a dressing room and a lovely large shower room with a bidet, overlooking the rear courtyard. Not forgetting to mention, there is also an annexe courtyard room. This place has lots of returning guests, with rooms they don’t even advertise, but people come to stay again and again.
Disliked: The plumbing - but not a deal breaker.
