The Spotlight on The George

Charming Countryside Stay Just Outside the Sheffield Scene

Modern comfort meets historic charm at The George, a beautifully updated 500-year-old inn nestled in the scenic village of Hathersage. Just 10 miles from Sheffield, this cozy retreat in the heart of the Peak District offers the best of both worlds—access to the city's concert venues with a peaceful place to recharge after the show.
Expect contemporary décor, free WiFi, and a warm welcome in a setting that blends rustic character with modern convenience.

Why Concert-goers love it

The George is a favorite for fans who want to escape the post-show buzz and enjoy a quieter night’s sleep. While it’s not in the middle of the city, it's within easy reach—just a short drive or train ride to Sheffield’s top music venues. The 15:00 check-in and 11:00 check-out give some flexibility, especially for those late-night returns. Plus, the peaceful village atmosphere makes it ideal for winding down after a high-energy concert.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends who want to explore the Peak District in between shows
  • Solo travelers ticking off a dream gig with a side of countryside charm
  • Couples planning a romantic weekend around a concert night
  • Fans needing post-concert quiet to relax and recharge
  • Budget-conscious music fans looking for value outside the city

Food and Drink Options

The George serves up a hearty full English breakfast each morning—perfect after a late night out. There's an on-site restaurant offering dinner, but late-night dining is limited, so plan ahead if you're coming back late from a show. While there's no 24/7 room service, the hotel’s restaurant is well-reviewed for quality and atmosphere.

Nightlife Options

While The George doesn’t host live music on-site, it’s a short journey to Sheffield’s buzzing nightlife. For a quieter evening, the hotel bar offers a relaxed atmosphere and a good selection of drinks—ideal for a nightcap before bed. Nearby pubs in Hathersage also provide a warm, local vibe.

What People Say

Guests love the blend of modern comfort and historic charm. Reviewers often praise the friendly staff, immaculate rooms, and delicious breakfast. Many mention that the location is great for both concerts in Sheffield and exploring the Peak District, making it a hit with weekend travelers.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests note that the village location means you’ll need to plan transportation to and from concerts—especially late at night. Also, since pets aren’t allowed anymore, those traveling with furry friends should look elsewhere.

The Bottom Line

If you're looking to pair your concert experience with countryside charm and a good night's sleep, The George offers a stylish and serene stay just outside the Sheffield spotlight.

Hathersage

Liked: The location of the hotel is fantastic and the hotel itself has lots of character. The room was fabulous and the facilities in the room were good.
Disliked: Breakfast was a little disappointing as we had to ask for juice and toast, which we felt should have been offered. Also, no cereal available, just one item from the breakfast menu. Asked for Latte was told it would be extra. Can't really fault what we had just expected a little more from reading the descriptions.

Awful. Worst hotel we have...

Liked: Nothing, the worst hotel we have ever stayed. Breakfast was inedible.
Disliked: The room allocated was next to the kitchen area and the shouting, swearing, music, singing and crashing about till after 23.40pm was unacceptable. The out of hours helpline just went to voicemail. This is not a hotel we shall be visiting again. A totally bad experience and we would have left that evening if we had been given the pass number to exit the car park.

A beautiful small hotel would...

Liked: A great small hotel in a delightful village in the beautiful Peaks. The staff were all very helpful professional and friendly. Food is excellent I’ve never had so many options on a menu for Gluten Free thank you so much appreciated. Food all beautifully presented and a great variety and a bonus of all being locally sourced. The bar area is really lovely decor very tasteful a cosy welcoming atmosphere. Our suite was splendid very comfy bed pillows could be improved on. The only downside is the road noise so not a good nights sleep enjoyed.
Disliked: Road noiseCould do with a shelf in the bathroom no where to put own toiletriesA larger or another table desk to put personal items, maybe remove the chaise as really only a decorative item An option to have some yogurt and fruit included with breakfast instead of either cooked or the full continental options
