The Spotlight on The George

Charming Countryside Stay Just Outside the Sheffield Scene

Modern comfort meets historic charm at The George, a beautifully updated 500-year-old inn nestled in the scenic village of Hathersage. Just 10 miles from Sheffield, this cozy retreat in the heart of the Peak District offers the best of both worlds—access to the city's concert venues with a peaceful place to recharge after the show.
Expect contemporary décor, free WiFi, and a warm welcome in a setting that blends rustic character with modern convenience.

Why Concert-goers love it

The George is a favorite for fans who want to escape the post-show buzz and enjoy a quieter night’s sleep. While it’s not in the middle of the city, it's within easy reach—just a short drive or train ride to Sheffield’s top music venues. The 15:00 check-in and 11:00 check-out give some flexibility, especially for those late-night returns. Plus, the peaceful village atmosphere makes it ideal for winding down after a high-energy concert.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends who want to explore the Peak District in between shows
  • Solo travelers ticking off a dream gig with a side of countryside charm
  • Couples planning a romantic weekend around a concert night
  • Fans needing post-concert quiet to relax and recharge
  • Budget-conscious music fans looking for value outside the city

Food and Drink Options

The George serves up a hearty full English breakfast each morning—perfect after a late night out. There's an on-site restaurant offering dinner, but late-night dining is limited, so plan ahead if you're coming back late from a show. While there's no 24/7 room service, the hotel’s restaurant is well-reviewed for quality and atmosphere.

Nightlife Options

While The George doesn’t host live music on-site, it’s a short journey to Sheffield’s buzzing nightlife. For a quieter evening, the hotel bar offers a relaxed atmosphere and a good selection of drinks—ideal for a nightcap before bed. Nearby pubs in Hathersage also provide a warm, local vibe.

What People Say

Guests love the blend of modern comfort and historic charm. Reviewers often praise the friendly staff, immaculate rooms, and delicious breakfast. Many mention that the location is great for both concerts in Sheffield and exploring the Peak District, making it a hit with weekend travelers.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests note that the village location means you’ll need to plan transportation to and from concerts—especially late at night. Also, since pets aren’t allowed anymore, those traveling with furry friends should look elsewhere.

The Bottom Line

If you're looking to pair your concert experience with countryside charm and a good night's sleep, The George offers a stylish and serene stay just outside the Sheffield spotlight.

Liked: This was a 21st gift for my nephew and his girlfriend, they completely loved it - Zoe (?) could not have been more helpful and they upgraded them which made the experience even more magical. Luca and Phoebe said the staff throughout were professional, so friendly and as accommodating as they could be. They were blown away - THANK YOU

Really disappointing due to extremely...

Liked: Beautiful hotel in lovely location.
Disliked: The bedroom was unbearably hot even with a fan and open window. Both my husband and I struggled to get any sleep during our one night stay due to the heat which when I raised it with reception was apparently due to “boiler problems”. There are no staff on duty overnight to raise issues with.

Overall most pleasant with good...

Liked: Loved the lounge, dining room and courtyard
Disliked: The room though convenient for my husbands poor mobility was dark with little daylight and the lighting was not good and certainly not bright enough to read in bed. The bathroom lacked anywhere to put tooth brush ect. The shower did not have a grab rail, it had a slippery base with no slip mat. These things can easily be put right.

Quality accommodation at a reasonable...

Liked: 1. The room was larger than I had expected. (I booked a single room). Although the room faced the street, I had no problems sleeping even with the window open.2. A good breakfast menu offering a choice of dishes, using high quality ingredients.3. A beer garden - the possibility to sit outside.
Disliked: Minor quibbles:The room was very warm on the first evening, however a ventilator was provided. The waiter/kitchen staff forgot our order for dinner one evening. However, the waiter offered us a drink on the house as compensation. The matter was dealt with in a professional manner.I personally prefer a shower cabin over a bathtub with shower unit - not a problem, though
