The George Hotel

great place to stay with...

Liked: I upgraded my room from single to double when I arrived. The single would have been fine for winter but way too warm for this heat in may especially with a dog in the room. They welcome dogs in hotel and in the bar, and mine sat under the table while having dinner. There was a lovely area at the back of the hotel to walk the dog. And even better, breakfast is served from 7 making it easy to get to where you want to go early.
Disliked: The room was a little noisy from motorbikes during the night.

Exceptional

Liked: The staff were exceptionally helpful, bending over backwards to help us.
Disliked: there was nowhere to put the kettle when boiling it. we had to pop it on the floor. didn't mind too much, but some would

great location, Castle Cary interesting

Liked: clean sheets, bed, breakfast, clean bathroom, location
Disliked: decor style bit grim, needed decorating, electrical sockets in odd places, mirrors in odd places in rooms

Lovely hotel, very comfortable room...

Liked: Spacious room, TV, teas, and coffees, the provision of a big fan in the room, lovely old building, great choices for breakfast. I liked the fact that my room was not directly above the pub where I would’ve heard all the customers in the room below.
Disliked: I’m not so keen that you had to park your car on the main road because there was insufficient room round the back. Not a major issue as the town is so quiet. Even though I had turned the towel rail right off the room still seem to have a tendency to get quite warm.

A great stay in Somerset

Liked: Friendly staff for all meal service, especially breakfast. This was a great location, central to our needs.We had a lovely room overlooking the market, but, sadly, there was a downside with the location of our room...
Disliked: We appreciate that it is a very old building with lovely features but the level of street noise through the single glazed window at night was disruptive to sleep. I would therefore recommend a room not facing the market, or wear earplugs.No mirror anywhere in the bedroom...

My hotel of choice in...

Liked: I have stayed at the The George previously, and the very fact that I chose it again is an indication of my liking for it! It is very old and creaky in places and my room was rather hot as it gets the full blast of the evening sun, but the shower worked fine (which is often an issue in very old hotels) and I will stay there again without hesitation. In fact, in October, I plan to celebrate the birthday of a US colleague in the George's ' private' dining room because it is a relaxed and friendly place .which my American friends will love.
Disliked: My room was hot and the bed was not very comfortable but that's not a big deal to me. as long as it is quiet .I will always take a single room when they are available because I am usually travelling on my own and it seems a shame to take up space unnecessarily. And it was a good price. The breakfast was very generous.

An absolute joy to stay...

Liked: Meals were outstanding! The staff really made you feel welcomed and a part of the community.
Disliked: Pillows were a bit flat for my liking.

Disliked: The beds were very uncomfortable and it was very noisy from people in the courtyard.
