The George Hotel

Spoiled by the disgraceful £60...

Liked: Nice location
Disliked: Staff incompetence. They advertise free parking but did not tell us we had to register our car electronically as well as in the registration form. We a week later received a £60 fixed penalty notice and the hotel failed despite my request to get it cancelled. So we then had to pay an extra £60 to the car park mgmt. Disgracefully poor service.

Really relaxing, easy, and enjoyable...

Liked: Really fab stay at the George, comfy beds, great breakfast and dinner, in the perfect location. Particularly enjoyed everyone having drinks in the pretty courtyard in the evening. Great value.

Nice location, but very disappointing.

Liked: The staff were friendly, and the location was good.
Disliked: The hotel was understaffed. The bedroom door (105) was a hazard as it wouldn't open or close without extreme force. The staff were aware of this and had to help my wife get into the room. We paid £170 for the room, including breakfast. We had to wait over fifteen minutes to be seated due to staff shortages. The table was half laid, no saucers or side plates. No napkins or tea spoons, we had to help ourselves from other half laid tables. There were no glasses for juice , so we had to drink from tea cups. The toast didn't arrive. The cooked breakfast was good but the staff forgot the eggs for my wife, we had to ask for them.The bedroom itself was comfortable however one of the hand towels had a hole in it. Not what you expect for the price paid. We have stayed in many hotels but this was the most disappointing.
