Disappointing apart from the breakfast....

Liked: The breakfast was good and the staff were attentive. Free parking.
Disliked: Our standard room was too small with no chair. The bathroom was in need of a total revamp with a crack in the sink and discoloured wall tiles near the floor and flaking paint on the ceiling.

Very good

Liked: All the staff at the quaint hotel / brasserie were lovely and friendly.Food was lovely. The full English breakfast really hit the spot - bacon and hashbrown amazing
Disliked: We had a double room, which was well designed and lovely, however the "double bed felt more like a small double/large single. While comfortable it was hard to get to sleep for the worry of falling out of the bed.We also had a street light opposite our window, so black out blinds would be good.

Warm and welcoming

Liked: Quirky, traditional- has a great history. Staff are excellent- warm and friendly- and breakfast was delicious. It’s a great ‘location’ hotel - tucked right in the centre and obviously popular locally.
Disliked: Decor a bit shabby. Needs a spruce-up but it’s such a busy hotel, it’d be a shame to close rooms

Overall more attention to detail...

Liked: Very attentive friendly staff.Nice soft towelsCoffee machine with plenty of coffee pods.Large bedWine menu was goodExtensive Breakfast menu, portions are large but presentation needs refining.
Disliked: Much of the hotel looks very tired, in need of decoration and new carpet. We stayed in room 12 which is one of the normal rooms (no beams etc), the room was not as clean as it should have been. We ended up using hand wet wipes to clean surfaces and thick dust off the headboard etc. Plenty of storage space in cupboard but again shelves needed cleaning. Diner was not good. I had two starters, both were generous portions for a starter but sadly was not fresh made , frozen ready made food and not enjoyable. My partner opted for simple Caesar salad which was okay.

A pleasant stay in a...

Liked: A pleasant atmosphere in the main 'pub' area and a decent pub meal in the evening, there was a large group in for dinner on our first night so we were advised to sit in the bar rather than the dining room. The room was small but clean and comfortable. The young duty manager Miles looked after us well and rectified a small problem in the evening. He was also instrumental in arranging a refund for the difficulty we encountered over breakfast on the first morning (see below)
Disliked: The pub is on the main street so apart from a small sitting area on the pavement and another beside the car park there was nowhere to sit outside. The hotel carpark is very small with a tight entrance, so it was necessary to park in one of the town carparks. On our first morning we waited nearly an hour for our breakfast to arrive - there seemed to be a communication difficulty between the waiting staff and the kitchen. However, the cost of the breakfast was more than refunded (thank you Miles!), a very satisfactory outcome.
