The Gainsborough Bath Spa - YTL Classic Hotel

The hotel was clean and the staff friendly and located near to the Bath Forum, which is why we chose it.

Disappointing stay for our family...

Liked: Great location, walking distance to everything and the SPA is nice but the only thing positive about the hotel is these two things.
Disliked: paWe recently had 12 family members staying at The Gainsborough for our wedding weekend in Bath, all on our personal recommendation. We even noted on our invitations that The Gainsborough was the best hotel in Bath — sadly, this was not the case. What was once a hotel full of charm and excellent service has, in our experience, lost its attention to detail, customer care, and overall standard.Every one of our family members left disappointed for numerous reasons. Rooms were not ready for check-in despite everyone requesting (and offering to pay for) early check-in, which was especially important as our wedding began at 3pm. The hotel not only refused early check-in but also late check-out, even for us as the bride and groom, with no apology or flexibility shown whatsoever.On top of that, there were issues with confirming spa entrance times, which required complaints before being resolved. Breakfast was a particular disappointment — at £40 per person, we expected quality, but what we were served was cold, bland, and not worth the price. Rooms themselves were also substandard: flat pillows with too few provided, tired furnishings, broken details in the suites, and air conditioning that didn’t work (several of our family members experienced the same).For £550 a night in a suite, we expected a five-star experience, but what we received was, at best, four-star — without the service to back it up. Customer service throughout was unhelpful and, at times, rude, which felt especially disheartening on such an important weekend for us.The only positive we can mention is the bell boys, who were helpful and attentive — but sadly, this small detail wasn’t enough to make up for such a disappointing stay.We would not stay here again nor recommend it to anyone. A real shame, as The Gainsborough once had a reputation for excellence, but based on our stay, it fell far short of what we were promised and hoped for.

Liked: The facilities were nice and the stay was comfortable. Location was great and the beds were one of the most comfiest i have slept inThe pools in Spa village are soothing (but only free for 6 hours in the day and really expensive otherwise)
Disliked: The worst part about the stay is that they create reasons to not give you the refund back. We gave GBP 100 in incidentals out of which GBP 60 were for expenses incurred at the property but the remaining they said they self-allocated it to staff bonuses and tips and they could only give us GBP 9. They do not tell you this at the beginning of your stay.I had to leave the property in urgency and forgot to pick up the remaining deposit and upon inquiring if it could be debited / credited to a card, they said I had to physically come and collect it. Furthermore, there were few other things that really reduced the experience like: - there is no staff to take your luggage from you when you arrive so you have to do all of the work yourself- the breakfast is strictly okay and you are only allowed one dish to order

A safe choice in a...

Liked: The hotel is centrally located if you want to explore Bath by foot. The Executive Room is a good size and has all the necessary amenities. The building has a heritage and is beautiful.
Disliked: The fact that guests of the hotel are allowed to use the spa facilities (baths) in restricted / designated hours makes the experience less premium. I decided to cut my visit short because although it was 8 in the morning it was too crowded and did not offer the relaxation I was expecting. On another note although the hotel is a historical building and I understand the limitations I did not like the entrance / reception area. I think it needs more warmth and a seating area as well.
