Liked: It’s a lovely property, well-maintained, nice tub in room (2), clean. Staff were nice and helpful (Sarah, thanks, and Elliot who helped store our bikes). Good bicycle storage. Cool history. Great outdoor patio.
Disliked: Dinner was very good and the restaurant was attractive, but service was uneven for such a nice place. Nobody came to take our order for a long time and dinner was paced unevenly. Minor complaint.

Disappointing experience

Liked: The exterior of the hotel was undeniably charming, with a beautiful facade that gave us high hopes upon arrival. Unfortunately, the interior of the room didn’t live up to the same standard. The room looked nothing like the photos advertised, it was noticeably outdated, and lacked the cleanliness and comfort we had expected based on the images.
Disliked: They called us 2 hours prior to the check in time to let us know that there would be no electricity in the room apart from main lights. As compensation, they offered to cover the costs of a different accommodation which was literally half the price of what we had paid and not even close to the type or quality of accommodation we were looking for. Their second offer to compensate for the lack of electricity was to offer us 50% off the bill if we were to dine at the pub with drinks excluded. We were already en route, with poor mobile reception, making this situation extremely stressful, especially as this was meant to be a special birthday weekend for my partner, which was effectively ruined by the hotel’s poor communication and inadequate handling of the situation.Upon arrival, the experience got worse. The receptionist was rude and dismissive, and made an inappropriate comment by asking about our “next destination,” clearly assuming we were just passing through because we’re not originally from the UK. This assumption was not only offensive but also reflected a discriminatory attitude, especially considering that we are both permanent UK naturalised residents and hold UK passports. To top it all off, the room was filthy. The bed headboard had visible sweat and even blood stains, a serious hygiene concern, which we have photographic evidence of.This experience was not just disappointing; it was unacceptable on every level, from customer service to cleanliness to discrimination. We expected far more from a professional establishment especially for the cost of this accommodation.

Superb

Liked: Such a pretty hotel and location, very clean and the fresh cookies in the room were a nice touch. The staff were pretty great and friendly, and location was convenient to get to other surrounding villages by car. Parking was really good. The food was great and breakfast is only £15 for guests. We really enjoyed our stay and would love to stay again. Were also upgraded to a better room as it was available which was nice.
Disliked: Just small picky things that didn't really affect how kuch we enjoyed our stay. The music on monday night was far too loud and was a bit out of place for the location, I know it was bank holiday monday but it was still a bit out of place. I did call a few times before we arrived but got no answer. Some of the staff did seem quite new which is fine, although we were told we couldnt sit inside to eat one night because inside was all reserved, but it was 8:30pm and there were loads of tables free all night, and it was a tueaday. There was also people cutting the grass at 9am on the Wednesday morning which was quite loud.

Very much enjoyed our stay...

Liked: One of my favorite hotels that I have stayed at (and we have traveled quite a bit); they seemed to think of all the details from warm cookies in the room upon arrival to thoughtful touches throughout and extremely friendly staff. Beautiful grounds as well and an exceptional restaurant with great atmosphere.
Disliked: Nothing to note on our side but for others, if guests have concerns about climbing stairs to their room, would just double check you are not staying in one of the upper floor rooms but plenty of options at ground level too!
