Liked: The interior decor is nice but that's the best I can say about the flat.
Disliked: We had such high hopes for this accommodation but after spending two nights here I cannot recommend it. The flat itself is lovely on the surface and the location is great for exploring the city. However, the flat sits between a pub and a bar/restaurant that doesn’t close until 2am. And when it does close everyone is kicked out onto the street directly below the flat. We knew we were in for a rough time when we checked in a saw the owners had left earplugs next to the bed. There’s no sound insulation in the flat so you hear everything, all the noise from bar and pub, all the noise from other people staying the building coming and going up the stairs, all the street noise through the single pain windows. Neither of us slept for the two nights we stayed and ultimately, we ended up leaving a day early because we couldn’t bear another night. The flat is one floor up from street level so the bedroom really needs blackout curtains for the light from the street. I think the bed is stuffed with cotton wool because it is incredibly soft and offered no support – we both left with back pain we didn’t have when we arrived. Additionally the pillows need replacing as they are hard and incredibly lumpy. The shower is tiny, leaks water and doesn’t get hotter than lukewarm and the toilet doesn’t flush properly. This is probably reaching the point of nit-picking but the front door lock didn't feel particularly secure which wasn’t comforting given all other residents have to come past this flat’s front door to get to their own accommodation on other levels. Also, the ironing board is old and needs replacing. At £200 pounds a night, which is more than the Double Tree or the standard Hilton, there are very few redeeming features here. We flagged all of this with the property owners when they asked why we left early and never had a response back so it doesn’t seem likely any improvements will be made in the future.

Liked: Exceptional property in the heart of York city. Very comfortable, well equipped home away from home. Private check in, accessing the apartment using a key left in a lock box was great. The communication with the management company was efficient. We had a small request which was answered within minutes of sending the request, and we were very appreciative of the late flexibility request. Can’t really fault this apartment, and will be booking again next time we come to York.
Disliked: There was nothing not to like about this property.
