Fabulous stay
Liked: Everything! We were in room 32 in the annex and it was a beautiful spacious room, with everything we needed.The bathroom was large with a shower cubicle and a separate bath, with lots of toiletries supplied, and also dressing gowns and slippers.Breakfast was delicious and there were lots of choices.All the staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful.

The problems we identified could...
Liked: Helmsley is a lovely town and the hotel has potential. The room we had was immaculate - but see further comments below.
Disliked: I was not as impressed by the meals as earlier reviews had suggested I would be. The menus were not a model of clarity. Only by reading the narrative on the breakfast menu was it clear that fruit was available. My chicken supreme on the dinner menu was dry and the pea fricassee meagre. Staff were generally pleasant but left us to find our accommodation on arrival. The outside block is not clearly signposted. Staff seemed to be still getting to grips with the new till in the restaurant. Serving staff had their backs to customers a lot of the time, talking to each other. Maybe this was due to till problems or lack of speedy service from the kitchen. Our main course took an age to arrive. Our bathroom mirror (in room 30), although large, was too high. You need to be at least 5ft 7ins to see your face fully.

Liked: Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was comfortable, clean with generous tea and coffee making facilities. Quiet and pleasantly decorated.
Disliked: Price of bar food and breakfast...felt pricey and we chose to eat elsewhere

Loved our stay here!
Liked: Breakfast was included in the cost of our room. They offered cold cereals, yogurt, fruit as well as hot fully cooked options. We wanted for nothing. The staff was exceptional. Expresso machine in the room was so nice each morning. Bed and pillows were very comfortable. The town of Helmsley is beautiful and has lots to offer including the Castle ruins and garden. Loved staying here. Would return in a heartbeat!
