The Dunstanburgh Castle Hotel

All in all a pleasant...

Liked: Liked the upgraded lounge/breakfast room decor. Our room was spacious and clean . Yorkshire Tea in the rooms was a plus and the biscuits a welcome addition.
Disliked: Breakfast was ok but between the 4 of us we had 8 poached eggs and everyone was hard ! Poached eggs need to be soft and runny unless asked to be “well done”

Nice room but mediocre food...

Liked: The room was great with a comfy bed and pillows. The en suite shower room was also very nice with lovely towels and shower gels provided.I was pleased to find Taylors tea bags and also decaf version.. nice touch! I wasn't disturbed overnight by any noise and had a wonderful sleep
Disliked: The food was mediocre. I had a Thai chicken style dish and both the rice and chicken were rubbery. Although friendly nobody seemed interested in whether I enjoyed my meal. I had a pint of Timothy Taylor's landlord with my meal which wasn't great either. I know what it should look and taste like as it's a favourite I'll order in pubs if I see it however it was only just about drinkable on this occasion.The breakfast menu lacks vegetarian options. I'm not a vegetarian myself as I eat chicken and fish but it's a long time since I've stayed anywhere that doesn't offer a vegetarian full English. I noticed there was eggs royale further down the list and also crushed avocado with poached eggs on sourdough so I asked for the latter without the avocado as personally avocado isn't something I like for breakfast. I was told there was only brown sourdough available and when it arrived with the extra egg, grilled tomato and baked beans I asked for there was just a small single slice of sourdough underneath the eggs. Then a couple of tables away I heard someone else being asked if they wanted brown or white sourdough. I also heard another customer asking for an omelette and being told that the waiter would have to check as chef doesn't like doing things not on the menu. Finally the coffee was the worst I've had anywhere ever and arrived in a metal coffee pot not a cafetiere in sight. Again no interest from staff as to whether I was happy with my breakfast or even if everything was ok with my stay when I checked out.
