Let down

Disliked: We didn't stay in the end. The customers next door left their dog alone in the room and it barked and howled constantly. Management not interested. Upon leaving, the reception lady promised us a call from management, to sort out the discrepancy, although we’re still waiting for the call 3 months later….poor. Wouldn’t recommend.

Amazing property in a perfect...

Liked: Great location. The entire property was designed beautifully- every room was unique and interesting. It was the quintessential Cotswold escape. Food was delicious and there were lots of lounging areas. The dining room was packed every night - which was a great sign that locals love it too.

Over hyped

Liked: The staff were all very helpful. The building is very nice and has been converted sympathetically. The rooms are all well decorated and ours (15) had the added quirk of the bathroom being upstairs with both a bath and separate shower.
Disliked: Our room smelled like drains. The food and drinks are extremely overpriced and don't really deliver. A cask ale for example is £5.60 to which they add 12% service. They add service to everything. I had ribeye steak, it is £46 and you literally get a steak, a sauce and chips. If you want a green it's another £7. Oh and I've never seen an old fashioned made with sugar syrup. It was also over diluted as they seem to stir it with ice but then serve you what they've stirred rather than pouring the chilled liquid into a fresh glass with fresh ice. Oh and if you want breakfast, which is allegedly included, bear in mind this is little more than toast or cereal. If you want a hot breakfast you need to pay extra for it. Given the room rate is knocking on for £300 this made me feel ripped off. They clearly know how to charge but I don't think this place has much of a concept of value. I felt ripped off staying here and that's a shame.

Very good

Liked: The charming old building. Loved the bathroom fittings.
Disliked: Chipped crockery. Also didn't know breakfast was just continental and had to pay extra for hot food. For the price we paid we expected a full breakfast.
