Exceptional

Liked: Had a great time here, very cool location, right by the loch and close to the castle. The room was comfortable, decorated in a way that felt cosy and authentic for the exterior of the hotel. Great food as well!
Disliked: None

Misleading. Inadequate. Expensive

Liked: Nothing. Even the location did not make up for the very poor experience. If I had not paid up front I would not have stayed
Disliked: Like a previous review by Fiona we were extremely disappointed. It had been sleeting on the day of our arrival and we were looking forward to our stay in the “warm and cosy hotel and restaurant” described on the website. The reality did not match the description and was nothing like the positive reviews given by other visitorsThe reception was unmanned and we had to find someone to serve us. There was no welcoming greeting and description of the facilities available, the staff member was not impolite but she just showed us to our tiny room, which smelled of dampness and air freshener, and just left. There was no cosy restaurant open as described on the website, we were we had told to go to the public house down the street for a meal (in the heavy rain)It turned out that the hotel manager was also the pub owner and so I complained about the state of our room. I also explained that we had been staying in the 5* Torridon Hotel the night before where we only paid £30 more than the extortionate price listed for the tiny room offered Dornie Hotel, which didn’t even have a restaurant open or a pleasant lounge to sit in. He explained that there had been a damp problem in Room 4 but they believed they had solved it. He offered to move us to another room at the front of the hotel. We had high expectations but were seriously disappointed. The whole hotel appears to be heated by dated electric storage heaters. These kept the public areas warm but the room we were given was much larger (and didn’t smell) but the temperature given on the small electric radiator was 16C. By this stage we were totally disillusioned and sat with our coats on until the room heated up - It didn’t. I discovered that the window would not close properly and the draft coming in defeated the inadequate heater. I eventually managed to jam the window in place and we went to bed cold. We couldn’t even watch the flat screen TV advertised on the website because there wasn’t one!
