Enjoyed the stay, over priced...

Liked: Room
Disliked: Due to coronavirus changes normal breakfast was not possible so we were provided with a bag containing a croissant and a piece of fruit. VERY POOR!

Great venue and location but...

Liked: This a beautiful recent conversion of a grand court house with many lavish period features remaining and high quality modern additions that sit well with the old. It feels classy and smart. It is perfect for Bermondsey Market and the South Bank. Also between lock downs it was dirt cheap given the quality due to weak demand for London hotel rooms at the time. Reception staff and the bar manager clearly have been trained well in proper 5star establishments are were attentive and charming.
Disliked: The restaurant is a total joke. Most chain hotels (this is part of Marriots 'high-end' offering) can be drab, uninspired and mostly empty. Some bright spark has decided to turn this around by getting Jack Whitehall (thats right the Comedian - with no known track record in catering or hospitality and no obvious appreciation of food) to lend his name to the joint which is billed as a JV. As such the menu has silly names for each dish and the restaurant was very busy with millennials and housewives all keen to Instagram themselves in a venue that looks like it was decorated from back-lot rejects from an Austin Powers film and who can bask in the pixie-dust of a celebrity tie-up canteen that serves overpriced greasy fried fayre. It is not clear whether Jack has ever set foot in the place or whether he had any input in the menu or decor but I hope not because his jokes are usually funnier than this. Finally, the young crowd for whom social distancing clearly only means wearing a condom happily wandered around without masks (a legal requirement), shared lifts and lavatory cubicles (even though there were other lifts and cubicles available) and generally carried on as if there were no rules or medical emergency and restaurant staff ignored everything; no doubt keen not to be thought 'uncool' in such a pretentious gaff.

Very good

Liked: Beautifully refurbished hotel. Lovely big beds. Amazing rain shower. Good breakfasts. Friendly and professional staff. Great location by the Southbank.
Disliked: Considering I was a solo traveller (therefore paying solo), it was for a special occasion (my birthday) and the hotel was quiet, I expected a little more in the way of an upgrade, rather than two free bars of chocolate. My allocated room (view) was also facing very close to another building, therefore I had no view and my own room was very dark. However, I did ask to change to a different room because of this and they did change this for me, which offered a partial view.
