The Darling

A lovely little hotel in...

Liked: The property is in an excellent location, within walking distance to Main Street, which is a cute little town with lots of shops and restaurants. My husband and I visited Visalia because we wanted to eat at a nearby restaurant which was where we had our first date, 42 years ago. We were very impressed with the Darling hotel. My husband stated it was the best shower/water pressure he’s ever had in a hotel. The staff was accommodating and the facilities were clean. A basket of snacks was provided, complementary. The elevator is a little slow, but worked well enough. We were surprised there was a fee for parking, but the parking lot was secure.We had happy hour at the Elderwood rooftop restaurant before going off to dinner. It was a little on the warm side, but a very nice atmosphere.
Disliked: There was a fee to park our car in the hotel parking lot.

Liked: the property was clean and comfortable
Disliked: front desk at check-in was lacking customer service skills. After asking three times where the second elevator was to get to my room without using stairs she finally pointed to the second elevator down the hall to what seemed to be a Service Area. Mind you no signage or offer to provide info at check in. The second night card key would not open secure parking lot gate, had to drive around to front to lobby. After explaining and having card key re programmed gate still did not open.

Liked: Breakfast was great, the rooftop patio was amazing, we love everything about this hotel.
Disliked: We actually travel quite a bit and there is very little to complain about with this hotel and we are very observant, the one and only minor glitch was the automatic light in the bathroom. On suggestion would be to restore the amazing original windows so they are operational.

What a marvel Art Deco...

Liked: the breakfast was delicious as well as the Valentine Day tasting dinner.
Disliked: the shower was difficult to figure out ie which knob controls the temperature and which the water volume . It was a rain shower and I would have appreciated a hand held option also but alas there wasn't one
