Stay at the Culloden
Liked: The Culloden was a once in a lifetime stay for us - we would not normally be able to pay the required price for this type of booking but we managed to grab a spectacular deal on Booking.com for this property, staying on a Sunday-Tuesday. The property was absolutely gorgeous full stop. The breakfast was spectacular, so many options and honestly great value for money. We thoroughly enjoyed the on site amenities and made our way to the spa for a swim/gym/sauna. The staff was always courteous and amenable, we had many lovely interactions. Relaxing in the Louge Bar in the evenings was also lovely. The bed was comfortable and the room was great. There was a statue exhibit going on when we got there - we had a lovely evening walking through and admiring the statues on display that were also available for purchase!
Disliked: There were just a couple of things making this stay an 8/10 for us. Our bathroom was somewhat dirty when we arrived. We didn’t notify staff as we didn’t notice until the second day of our stay - the bathtub and shower were not super clean and I had to do a little bit of scrubbing on the tub/fill it twice to have a bath. Again not a huge issue normally but not quite up to the standards we would expect from a 5 star accommodation. Due to the price tag, our dinner at the Cultra Inn was one of our most expensive dinners we had our entire trip - the food was good but the service definitely left something to be desired. For the associated price we were expecting a bit more from this!

Very good
Liked: The building itself is stunning — a large, grand castle with beautiful surroundings. The atmosphere is impressive and gives a real sense of history. However, the interior, especially the furniture and room decor, felt quite dated and low-quality. Not for the art exhibiton of course. And the staff is very friendly and just great! For such a magnificent estate, you'd expect more attention to detail and a higher standard of furnishings the rooms. That said, we slept very well — the bed was comfortable and the room was quite.
Disliked: Unfortunately, breakfast was a real letdown. We arrived at 9:00 AM and there were no Eggs Benedict left. The buffet was practically empty and not restocked, which was disappointing. Eventually, I did get Eggs Benedict, but without spinach (they had run out), and they were very poorly made — the ham inside was unpleasant and tasted off. For a hotel of this level, we expected much better service and preparation.

Beautiful hotel, great facilities. Attention...
Liked: Amazing location, beautiful setting and gorgeous, historic interiors. GREAT gym & spa.
Disliked: The room I stayed in was lovely and the general ambiance was wonderful. However, when you stay at a 5 star facility, you expect the attention to detail to be there. I.e. Shower had some greying/mould in the grout, bath tray had mould in the corners, wardrobe had stiff squeaky doors, the shower made a horrendous loud noise. We also did an event on site in a conference room. It was well set up and felt very elegant. However, we pre-ordered food for the team and were quite disappointed with the quality of the lunch & service that we received.
