Great location, staff need to...
Liked: Beautiful building in a great location. Parking good. Room size was generous, no air con but not a hot stay for us. Bed comfortable and pillows were nice. Overall the design was good.
Disliked: What really stood out was the poor welcome (or lack of it) on reception, the staff in the breakfast room - what's happened to smiling every once in a while and being friendly? (on that note, thank you to the cleaner just before we left that actually smiled and said hello). Bathroom tatty - just needs some maintenance/paint etc. Breakfast was tasteless, even the fresh fruit had no flavour (remarkable), ended up just having a slice of toast with honey - one of us had the cooked and it was really bland. What a shame, this could be a wonderful hotel - make sure you book without the breakfast if you get the option!

Grand building but awful traffic
Liked: The hotel building is grand and attractive from the outside, but the communal areas inside are a little tired. The bed was comfortable. The staff were a little slow but generally seemed to be doing their best.
Disliked: Be aware the hotel is situation on the junction of two A roads! The traffic outside is more like Central london than a New Forest market town. It was dangerous to walk down the road with our young kids as the pavement is very narrow... let alone cross the street. Secondary glazing in the bedrooms is effective but some noise was still present. The windows were also open in the dining room with all the pollution coming in, as it was a warm evening. The food was also quite average for the cost (around 100 GBP for 2 adults and 2 kids).
