A part from the debarcles...
Liked: Rooms very tidy, furniture a little worn around the edges, but bed comfortable with plenty of pillows. Breakfast lovely with a wide selection of menu options. Dinner good value for money.
Disliked: On the Friday evening I was sitting on my bed watching TV in Room 42 when there was a jingling of keys outside and the door opened. The guy was the same one who had served us in the restaurant earlier. He apologised profusely and promptly shut the door. At approx 1am on Sunday morning I was woken by the phone ringing in my room. On answering it it was the Night Porter to say that water was running down the walls of the room immediately below mine (Room 42) and could he come up and take a look. I said I would get dressed and yes he could come and look. A while later the phone rang again he said he had been up to my room and knocked but could not make anyone hear. I replied that I had heard nothing. He said he would try again. Again I waited and no knock came, I opened the door and looked along the corridor and nobody there! The phone then rang for a third time and the Night Porter said "I am calling Room 82?". I said now and that this was Room 42. By this time it was around 1.20am and he did apologise but I finally drifted off to sleep again at around 3.30pm. At breakfast the next day I was telling my brother and friends about the events of the night before and the guy who served us breakfast was the night porter from the night before. He did explain that he had issues with the switchboard, but |I felt he was a little dismissive and said "at least you will have a tale to tell". I needed to be up early to attend the Tractor Fest event at Newby Hall, so felt pretty shattered on the Sunday. My husband passed away in January 2024 so I was in the room alone. For several years now we have booked a room at the Crown and for the last two I have booked 2 rooms for myself and my brother who has accompanied me.

Liked: Was a very comfortable, friendly atmosphere and staff polite and cheerful. Bedroom really clean and plenty of room. Tea tray had good selection of drinks and coffee machine was a nice addition. Radio also a nice addition. Overall exceptional. Many thanks for an enjoyable stay.
Disliked: There was no telephone in room if contact was needed for reception, most hotels have this facility. Would have liked some hand and body lotion which I didn’t seem to have in bathroom. Otherwise everything I needed
