The Spotlight on The Clarendon Hotel

Charming Village Vibes Just Minutes from London’s Music Scene

Nestled in the heart of Blackheath Village, The Clarendon Hotel offers a classic, comfortable stay with sweeping views of Greenwich Park and the London skyline. This historic hotel combines a relaxed atmosphere with easy access to central London—just a 15-minute train ride away. With boutique shops, bars, and restaurants right outside the door and the O2 Arena, Canary Wharf, and Excel Centre close by, it’s the perfect launchpad for music lovers.

Why Concert-goers love it

The Clarendon is a top pick for music fans heading to the O2 Arena or events in Greenwich Park. It’s easy to reach late-night thanks to nearby train connections from Blackheath Station—just a 20-minute ride from Waterloo. After the show, you’ll return to a quiet, village-like setting that’s ideal for winding down. With flexible check-in from 14:00 and early check-out at 10:30, it works well for those on tight schedules. Bonus: on-site parking (with EV charging) and WiFi are included.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a scenic, social base
  • Solo travelers attending a bucket-list gig at the O2
  • Couples planning a weekend of music and sightseeing
  • Fans wanting a quieter post-concert recovery space
  • Budget-conscious music fans who want value without sacrificing location

Food and Drink Options

Start your day with a free full English breakfast—especially welcome after a late night out. Grab a bite at the on-site Meridian Restaurant or unwind with drinks at the Nautical Chart Bar. The hotel also offers room service, ideal when you’re too tired to go out. For more variety, stroll through Blackheath Village where local pubs and eateries stay open late.

Nightlife Options

While The Clarendon keeps things peaceful, you're never far from the action. Catch live music at the O2 or Greenwich, then return for a nightcap at the hotel’s cozy bar. Prefer to keep the party going? Nearby bars and lounges in Blackheath offer a great local vibe without the chaos of central London.

What People Say

Guests rave about the hotel’s charming location, with one reviewer calling it “a hidden gem with village charm just outside the city.” Reviewers highlight the friendly staff, clean rooms, and the convenience for attending events at the O2. Many praise the free breakfast and say the hotel offers excellent value for the area.

Areas for Improvement

Parking can be a bit tight during peak times, so arrive early if you’re driving. The hotel’s classic style may feel a little traditional for those preferring ultra-modern décor—but for many, that’s part of its charm.

The Bottom Line

For a peaceful post-concert retreat with quick access to London’s top venues, The Clarendon Hotel strikes the perfect chord.

Good

Liked: Location is ideal for access to Blackheath and Greenwich.Room size is generous.
Disliked: Overall a bit outdated, especially the hotel communal areas and the room bathroom. Basic toiletries provisions in the room. Unfortunately there is no fridge which was noticeable because during my visit days the weather was very hot.

Convenient and comfortable

Liked: It is an older hotel with an older less diverse clientele. Nice quiet neighborhood, with convenient bus stops and a train station within a five minute walk. Excellent included breakfast and water by the reception desk. And an excellent fan which was needed with this weather.
Disliked: The age was clearly visible in the bathroom, the door to the bathroom wouldn't close unless you banged against it loudly. This was really inconvenient especially if you had to use the toilet at night while everyone else in the room was asleep. This was room 182. The bathtub is also quite high as far as climbing in and out, while the tub did not look inviting enough for a bath.

It just O.K.

Liked: The beds were nice and comfy. Room and area we saw really dated. The single glazed steel frame windows had putty that is really poor finish/ standard. Breakfast is very good, but chaotic at th buffet due to the way the food islands are set out.
Disliked: Check-in.....We stood patiently while being ignored by 2 staff having a nice chat. Eventually we were asked if we were the other person booking in. Once it was established we were not, even though Stevie Wonder could see it clearly, we got checked in politely. On return from a long day in town, I asked if the bar was open and the gent on reception just growlled its closed, 23:30 seems early but so be it.
