Liked: The staff at the hotel was wonderful. Super helpful in every way. For example, While asking for walking directions to old Sacramento, staff offered us water bottles. That was thoughtful.
We loved the authentic architecture and humorous political artworks throughout the building. Even if you don't choose to stay here, do come down and check it out.
Disliked: The Citizen hotel's attached restaurant the Grange: high end cuisine, but fast food chain service. One of the reasons we returned to the Citizen (our third visit) was for a special dinner after work. The chef and food at the Grange remain superb--no disappointments there. But sadly, the restaurant staff delivered an experience below an average Dennys restaurant. We languished for an eternity without getting any help. When finally got some attention, we were made to feel as though we were a bother. We won't bother the Grange again. Too many other good choices downtown.

Liked: The staff was very friendly and helpful. Checking in and out was easy. The valet retrieved the car quickly. We had room service and the food was good.
Disliked: Walking into the hotel in the evening there was a "wall" of flies right as you entered into the hotel that you had to get through to enter the elevators. This happened to me both nights that we stayed.

Liked: Great vibe in the Hotel. A lot of history.

Liked: History of the hotel and proximity to State Capitol and other tourist destinations.
Disliked: A/C seemed to be limited to a low temp of 69 degrees. We had to open the windows to get colder air, and thus was subject to street noise. Valet parking was $28 for the night- just to be informative.

Liked: Breakfast was excellent, check in was simple and fast
Disliked: They didn't have my Marriott rewards number on file and it took time to straighten that out.

Liked: I loved the customer service we received from the bartending team and wait staff. The breakfast was delicious and our waiter was very friendly and helpful with suggestions. The bartenders were also friendly and helpful with suggestions. The hostess at the restaurant was rude and unfriendly (no smiles were provided). The check in team was ok; not bad but not very friendly.
Disliked: There was a wedding and our room was right above the reception. All we heard was the DJ and our room vibrated with music. We went for a mini get away to spend some quality time away from the hustle of home life and we almost packed our bags and went home due to the LOUD music. I recorded the sound of the music coming from our room. The only saving grace was the reception ended at 11 p.m.

Disliked: The howl of wind through out our room Room 808
