The Spotlight on The Chadwick Bed and Breakfast

Charming Comfort Just Minutes from the Portland Music Scene

Tucked away on a quiet street in Portland’s historic West End, The Chadwick Bed and Breakfast is a cozy, adults-only retreat with classic New England charm. Set in a beautifully restored 19th-century home, it’s just 1.5 miles from downtown venues like the Merrill Auditorium, making it perfect for concert-goers who want a peaceful place to unwind after the show. With beautifully appointed rooms, a welcoming garden, and thoughtful in-room touches like wine, fruit, and homemade cookies, this B&B delivers both comfort and character.

Why Concert-goers love it

The Chadwick offers the perfect balance of proximity and peace. You’re close enough to Portland’s top music venues to walk or grab a quick ride, but far enough away to enjoy a quiet night’s sleep. The flexible 2:00 PM check-in gives you time to settle in before heading out, and the serene garden and cozy lounge are ideal for winding down post-show. With free parking and easy access to late-night transport options, getting around is a breeze.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a charming, communal vibe
  • Solo travelers seeing a bucket-list artist and wanting a restful stay
  • Couples making a romantic weekend of their concert trip
  • Fans wanting a quieter post-concert recovery space
  • Budget-conscious music fans who want more value in a boutique setting

Food and Drink Options

While there’s no full restaurant on site, The Chadwick offers a delightful snack bar and in-room treats like chocolates, fruit, and champagne. Breakfast is included, and served late enough to accommodate your post-concert sleep-in. The West End and downtown are packed with excellent walkable dining options for both pre-show dinners and late-night bites.

Nightlife Options

The Chadwick is just a short ride from Portland’s vibrant bar scene. Whether you’re in the mood for a chill cocktail lounge, a lively bar with local brews, or live music before the main event, you’ll find it close by. The B&B’s shared lounge and outdoor fireplace also offer a low-key spot to unwind with friends or fellow travelers.

What People Say

Guests rave about the immaculate rooms, attentive service, and peaceful atmosphere. Many highlight the thoughtful extras like complimentary snacks and the relaxing garden area. The location is often praised for being quiet yet convenient to downtown and concert venues. Travelers also love the personal touches that make each stay feel special.

Areas for Improvement

This isn’t the place for those looking for a party vibe or on-site nightlife. With no on-site restaurant and a quiet, adults-only policy, it’s more about relaxation than revelry. And while there’s no 24/7 room service, the thoughtful hospitality more than makes up for it.

The Bottom Line

For concert-goers who want to enjoy Portland’s music scene and then retreat to a stylish, serene setting, The Chadwick Bed and Breakfast hits all the right notes.

Like a family home away...

Liked: Warm and welcoming staff. Great team, especially the three furry taste testers they employ.Great communications prior to our stay and upon self-check-in. The breakfast were varied and really tasty. The bed was really comfortable and meant two great nights sleep. If we find ourselves in Portland again we would only stay here. One of the friendliest, most homely places we’ve ever stayed in. Erin especially is like a long lost sister. Great job!!!

Wonderful for a first time...

Liked: Location on the West Side of town was great--many restaurants near by and we were able to walk everywhere. Erin is super friendly and the dogs with their daily chorus were a bonus. The breakfasts were exceptional, and we really looked forward to seeing what Erin had cooked up each morning. The bed was comfy and bathroom very clean and well stocked. I would definitely recommend the Chadwick B&B to Portland tourists. We also appreciated the tourist information on their website which was very comprehensive.
Disliked: Although typical for an old house, there were some ants in our room. We were also somewhat disturbed by the people in the room that shared a wall with us. Coffee and tea were available all day which we enjoyed, but the property description mentioned "treats" which turned out to be packets of cheese crackers and bags of microwave popcorn to pop. i was hoping for some fresh-baked goodies which I have enjoyed at other B&B establishments with a similar price, so that was disappointing.

Couldn't have done better!

Liked: Household personalities, great breakfasts, privacy, my own bathroom, fabulous location near great walking areas and views, very close to downtown, incredible neighborhood, treated with warmth and kindness constantly!
Disliked: Staris, but that is because I have poor knees.

Liked: Breakfast was lovely and delicious! Because I booked through booking.com though, and not on the B&B website itself, I didn't fill out dietary restrictions in advance and had to ask for a shift the morning of, which was a bit of a snag – so make sure you share those ahead of time! But the co-owner / Innkeeper did kindly make adjustments which I appreciated.
Disliked: There was more interaction with the residence dogs (who are beautiful huskies contained in the kitchen) than I would have expected; I love dogs, but my mom has a tough relationship / phobia with them so wish that had been advertised a little more just for folks who might similarly have fears or trauma around them.
