The Spotlight on The Cambie Hostel Seymour

Heritage Charm Meets Downtown Energy

Modern, social, and budget-savvy – The Cambie Hostel Seymour is a 120-year-old heritage building in the heart of downtown Vancouver. Just a short walk from major concert venues like BC Place and Rogers Arena, this hostel blends old-school character with a vibrant backpacker vibe. With shared facilities, a full communal kitchen, and a cozy lounge, it's the kind of place where you’ll meet fellow travelers before heading out to the show.

Why Concert-goers love it

You’re less than a mile from Vancouver’s biggest arenas, so no need to stress about late-night transport. Granville SkyTrain station is just a 5-minute walk away, making late returns easy and affordable. The hostel’s lively on-site bar offers weekend entertainment and a fun pre- or post-show scene. While it's on the social side, the rooms are located above the bar for a bit of separation when you're ready to crash after the encore.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends on a budget looking for a fun base
- Solo travelers catching a dream gig and hoping to meet new people
- Couples making a weekend getaway out of it
- Fans needing a friendly but quiet-ish space to rest after a show
- Budget-conscious music lovers who’d rather spend on tickets than beds

Food and Drink Options

The on-site Cambie Pub serves up local craft beers and classic pub fare, and guests get a 20% discount on meals and drinks. While there’s no room service, the hostel’s shared kitchen and dining space is a great perk for late-night snacks or pre-concert meals. You’ll also find plenty of downtown eateries just steps away, including options that stay open late. Breakfast isn’t served on-site, but nearby cafes open early enough for a post-gig recovery coffee.

Nightlife Options

The Cambie Pub is known for its weekend entertainment and local live music, making it a great pre-game spot. Plus, you’re walking distance to Granville Street’s buzzing bar and club scene. Whether you're looking for a chill nightcap or a full-on afterparty, it’s all just around the corner.

What People Say

Guests highlight the amazing location, especially for walking to concerts and catching the SkyTrain. The pub gets plenty of love for its atmosphere and good value. Reviews also praise the friendly vibe, with many mentioning it's a great place to meet fellow travelers. The free WiFi and full kitchen are also appreciated perks.

Areas for Improvement

This is a hostel, so expect shared bathrooms and a bit of noise, especially on weekends. Rooms are basic but clean. If you're a light sleeper or looking for luxury, this may not be your jam—but it’s part of the charm for those who love a dynamic, low-frills experience.

The Bottom Line

For concert-goers who want to stay close to the action without breaking the bank, The Cambie Hostel Seymour offers unbeatable location, local vibes, and wallet-friendly fun.

Very good

Liked: The location was very convenient to the metro (to airport), buses and ferries. I was arriving at the cruise dock and hostel was just a few blocks away. I had a private room.

Very good

Liked: check in was very smooth, bed was comfortable, luggage storage, nice bar connected to the hostel. Front desk was accommodating and pleasant. Bathroom was clean. Easy 30 minute metro ride to the airport, I took the first available trip in the morning and made my 7am flight with checked bag with time to spare.
Disliked: the bunk bed was comfy but a bit flimsy. i was on the top, and could feel the bed moving when the other person moved at night.

Yes I would stay here...

Liked: I liked the staff for sure, and the fact it is the upstairs to a bar/restaurant. The beds were also comfortable, and linens were clean.
Disliked: 1. No accessibility, and if you have extremely heavy luggage you have to haul it up at least one flight of stairs. 2. The storage they use for luggage is downstairs and extremely dingy, smelly and moldy. You are only allowed to use it for part of a day and then they charge you. 3. There isn't anything very interesting about it, just rooms and a bathroom (whereas most hostels I've stayed at at least had rec rooms, interesting art, things to do, etc.) 4. For what it is and what it offers I thought it was overpriced by about 20%. These are very specific things that affected my trip, I don't believe other travelers will be as nit picky as I was.

A good option for a...

Liked: The hostel was in a great neighbourhood and very easy to check-in. I chose a 2-bed female dorm room to save costs and only had a roommate on one evening. Bed was reasonably comfortable and I slept pretty well; it was not too loud in the hostel. I was only really inside when I needed to sleep so I can't comment much otherwise.
Disliked: It looked as though the men's washroom had undergone a renovation recently, whereas the womens had not. The bathroom was fine overall, but given the old stalls and design, it will be much better when they renovate it to be aesthetically as nice as the men's. There was also quite a lot of women's hair left over on the top bunk bed from previous guests, so I chose the bottom bunk instead.

Bad

Liked: The staff were very according and the manager was beyond helpful to our needs
Disliked: Our room had bed bugs and was very tiny and cramped. Didn’t look like the photos
